Drabble and Memorial Day Weekend Fun

Wrote another last minute drabble for Black Pearl Sails....

"Fire All!"

"Fire all!" Elizabeth had roared, as loud as she could, forcing her voice over wind, wave, and the mob of pirates. The Interceptor's guns roared back in response, echoing the command. The ship, the air, the world shuddered and cracked with sound, and then with smoke, fire, and splinters as the Black Pearl gave reply, deadly missiles finding their marks.

An avenging goddess, Will said, waxing poetical when he spoke of the moment, many years later. A Valkyrie, an angel of death.

Maybe so. All she remembered was she'd never felt more human and more alive than in that moment.

Also pounded out a syllibus, and another 15 page paper for ex-boss. I am certainly learning a lot about the administrative aspects of urban education in typing these papers for her.

Never posted about the delightful Memorial Day weekend I had, in which [livejournal.com profile] gingersnapps and our non-LJ friend, Dinnyboy, summoned us (me, [livejournal.com profile] ladymora, [livejournal.com profile] shockwavesix, [livejournal.com profile] amy_leone, [livejournal.com profile] bates_motel, and old Disney Hellion friend KC) to the Magic Kingdom for an EIGHT HOUR scavenger hunt (Holy Blistered Footies, Batman!), followed by the New Parade and the New Fireworks (for the 50th anniversary-- don't miss 'em!).

After our sojourn at the Happiest Place On Earth, we drove down to Portrero Regional Park, which is about 40 miles southeast of San Diego, right near the border where we camped for three nights at the annual SCA war that is held there. Got to bed at 3 or so on Saturday morning, and I had a Disneyland Hangover on Saturday, but managed to get dressed and walk over to Merchant's Row later in the day and was in time to see the beginning of the wedding which [livejournal.com profile] erinya was attending (although there was no way to identify her and we missed meeting each other--it's a BIG camp, and cell phones don't work, for the most part). The bridal party looked stunning--a Scottish theme, I believe. Bought two books at the book stall (one on the writing of Meister Eckhart, and one on pirates) and a tee shirt for [livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6 that says When monkeys fly out my butt in Latin. Also had a snack of deep-fried dill pickle chips, which sounds horrid and is really quite delicious.

Sunday I was feeling somewhat more sociable/energetic. Didn't watch any of the fighting this time, but did take in a talk on period music, went to a dance and learned some period dances in the evening (fortunate that I had knowledgeable partners), and generally had a good time looking over everyone's garb, conversing, and reading and relaxing. I had a little dome tent all to myself, which was nice, and a new air mattress, so I didn't kill my back, several good books to read (Quicksilver, and Master & Commander), and [livejournal.com profile] ladymora was able to loan me sufficient garb to dress decently. Never did find that chemise and overdress she made me two years ago.

Monday we ate lunch at Fillipi's (?) Pizza, which is a chain all over the San Diego area. Bad service, but good food. Then we headed home, and made it in two and a half hours--there was NO traffic, which seemed odd but was wonderful. Got home at 6:30, ordered Red's barbeque to be delivered for dinner, and had a swim accompanied by Mp3's, apricots off the tree, and frozen daiquiris. It was a great way to wind up the weekend.

Must away to work now. All this work/having to sleep really cuts into my writing time. You know?

The drabble turned out wonderfully! I love the: forcing her voice over wind, wave, and the mob of pirates. And this drabble, like your Insult one, has such a nice rhythm to it. Interesting with their respective views on the situation, as well.

Sounds like a great weekend, thanks for telling us about it! Pity you didn't take any pictures, it would've been fun to see you in garb ;-)

I didn't look too bad, considering I borrowed it from my daughter. It's great fun playing dress-up. You should see some of my daughter's outfits--really gorgeous! And she was quite interested to learn of your hobby of weaving, too.

I'm sure you looked great :-) Does she do any weaving herself?

Not so far. She sews, and does embroidery, and various kinds of lace and trim making -- tatting, etc. But I think she's interested in learning.

Her husband, [livejournal.com profile] dr_mrow does leather work, including shoe making.
