Wind and Fire

I'm OK, but there are far too many on my flist and at work here that are being threatened by the many brush fires in Southern California. The winds are horrendous, 80 to 90 mph gusts. No wonder I lost my poor tree.

Prayers and good vibes to all of you that are effected, evacuees and otherwise.

Wow, stay safe. I know they evacuated the entire town of Ramona in San Diego County, reminiscent of the 2003 fires, and Malibu's going up again, and now Simi as well? Hope everybody's okay and I wish I could send some of our itinerant Nor Cal rain showers down south.

I'm safe enough, and there doesn't seem to be any fire visible here, but [livejournal.com profile] avingail's aunt and uncle have a ranch out near Ramona, and [livejournal.com profile] oiseaurobyn has been evacuated from the Rancho Bernardo area. :((

Yes, we could use some rain. And less wind. Take care of that ASAP, would you?

Was wondering about you. Crossing fingers the winds die down... NOW WOULD BE NICE! I don't think that anyone who hasn't felt the hot lick of a Santa Ana wind can quite comprehend how hot and fierce that wind is.

It's as bad as I've ever seen it with the wind. Yes, NOW would indeed be nice. My house is down out of the hills, so I'm fine, firewise, just tired of breathing dust and having 14% humidity. Argh. Supposed to be gusting up to 70 mph through tomorrow afternoon. And 97 degrees predicted, as well. Bah. I want some of that nice rain we had a week ago. Thanks for the sympathetic vibes though -- I appreciate it.

Finger, toes and eyes crossed for EVERYONE, ma'am!

Thank you! There are a bunch of people who really need it. :(

I'm glad you're okay!! I can't imagine being in that type of peril. *hugs*

I'm not in any peril myself, but there are many who are. Prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts: all good.

Absolutely! And I've been keeping an eye on it all day.

Is it anywhere near Big Bear Lake? I have a couple of friends there and my actor boy is a supporter of the Moonridge Zoo there.

My daughter told me there was fire near Lake Arrowhead, but I haven't listened to the news yet. Must go turn it on. I wish your friends and actor boy good luck. Hopefully the winds will die down by tomorrow afternoon, as they are predicting.

Thanks for the update!

Those damn Santa Ana winds.... GAH!!! Yes, I'm hoping then chill out and stop making the firefighting so hard.

I heard Pepperdine was evacuated and it was only about 1/4 mile away. Did they sustain any damage?
ext_15536: Fuschias by Geek Mama (Jack - WTF?)

[identity profile] geekmama.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if Pepperdine sustained damage. It's pretty green and well watered on the grounds (because this sort of thing happens occasionally). I can't believe it was only a week ago we were there, to see a play, and then driving down PCH to the Chart House and the Getty. It was so beautiful that day.

I need to go turn on the news. :(

[identity profile] araestel.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's so sad to see so much burning!! Do they know what started it all?

Some of the fires are arson. Some are not. When it's this dry and windy, it's way too easy for fires to start.

[identity profile] araestel.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I was afraid it was just plain stupidity of some moron throwing out a cigarette butt. :( Sadly, I'm not surprised by the arson thing either. *sigh*

It's difficult for those of us in other parts of the country (or the world) to imagine the terror.

We all need to have a group hug and a group prayer for all. It's time to give up the territory and shipping wars and have a moment for the real persons and real lives involved.

Group hugs are very good. It's a bad scene out there, for many many people. :(

*hugs you* So glad to hear you're okay (sorry about your tree)! *sends good, safe thoughts and prayers your way*

Poor tree. So sad. All gone now. The gardeners had it cleaned up "toot sweet".

Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts -- they're much appreciated.

Glad you posted an update; was thinking about you tonight as I watched the news. Hopefully this will break soon.

I believe the winds are supposed to lessen by tomorrow afternoon, but there's a lot of time between now and then, firewise. Hopefully those firefighters will have some good luck -- we know how skilled they are (VERY) and how hard they work (CRAZY hard). Thank you for the positive thoughts. They are much appreciated.

Appreciate the updates; will be thinking of you and send prayers.
When I first experienced the Santa Anas, after living always in northern Ohio, it took my breath away to walk out the door.
It truly is like living in a windy furnace.
When I was told it could continue for a week, I literally couldn't believe it. :(

It's supposed to be 97 degrees tomorrow. Although if it's smoky, that'll keep it cooler. Ugh. Lucky you, in beautiful Oregon. :)) (Although it gets too cold up there in the winter for me -- lived in Portland for several months many years ago and was constantly freezing.)

I thought of you, too, since I think you've mentioned you live inland. Glad where you're at is okay.

They say there might be some relief tomorrow.

That's what I've heard too. We'll see. The schools are closed to students tomorrow, but the staff has to work -- we'll be able to play catch up, some. *G*

Thank you for the good thoughts!

hoping you are still OK ... I saw familiar placenames on a map of the fires, and I'm hoping / praying that you're not in the path of the flames!

No, we're OK in Simi, and the winds have died down so hopefully they'll be able to get the fires under control today. Thanks for the prayers/good thoughts -- there are many in S.Cal. that can use them, for sure!
