Drabble: 'What's in a Name?'

A double drabble for the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails, with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for looking it over.

~ Faith and Wit ~

"The Faithful Bride," mused Elizabeth. "I suppose the name's some sort of ironic piratical joke?"

"We pirates do have an amusing and highly developed sense of irony," Jack said, ogling a pretty tavern wench, who cast him a provocative wink.

"That we do," said Gibbs, his eyes lighting with the fire of storytelling, "but the Bride was named for its first proprietor, a comely lass and true. Her man was a right successful pirate, and he brought her out here from England and built this place for her, nigh on twenty years ago, to help her pass the time while he was off plyin' the sweet trade."

Elizabeth looked around at the raucous patrons, and the less-than-pristine surroundings that bore no evidence at all of a woman's touch. "What happened to her?"

"Oh, she went back to England," said Gibbs. "Seems she was faithful, but her man was one as has a lass in every port, as the saying goes. She took exception when she finally found out."

"Just like a woman." Jack's wandering gaze finally returned to Elizabeth's. "Not amusing at all, then."

"Apparently not," she agreed, blandly. "To achieve irony they should have changed it to Faithful Husband."

Ah yes!
"We pirates do have an amusing and highly developed sense of irony,"

It's my favorite Jack story when it's a elbow in the ribs kinda one! Love this, made me laugh and sounds just like the group of them, snarking and scopin' out the talent! Thanks!
