Looks as if there will be lots of different aspects and settings in this film for Our Heroes to overcome ;) Thanks. Total COS: How are you surviving the LA heat wave? Is it as bad as the media makes it sound? Felaine
The heatwave isn't that bad for me as I work in A/C all day. We did go out to the Elephant Bar last evening for cool drinks and air as my house has no A/C. But once the sun goes down it's tolerable enough. It's cloudy this morning, but still supposed to reach 104 degrees, according to my computer.
They said it was over a hundred at the beaches yesterday, 104 where my daughter lives in Santa Barbara -- very unusual! And there are a few teachers here at work that are without A/C -- it broke down at just the wrong time. So awful for the teachers and the kids.
I see upthread that you are a costume geek. Have you been following the pix from Orlando's latest, The Three Musketeers? I want to MARRY the costume designer. Seriously. I've never seen the like. There are three fabulous pix at Brenda's LJ, and even more here.
Be sure you're sitting down before you click. You have been warned. *g*
That first commenter said it: "Oh. My. God." I had seen a glimpse of the burgundy colored costume, but that blue one is amazing! And I adore the hair, and his pearl earring. *g* I hope the movie is as wonderful as the costumes!
Mind-boggling, isn't it? So, so gorgeous. Poor Orlando may not love being cast in an endless stream of costume epics, but you gotta admit, he was made to wear period dress. So very pretty.
And the movie could suck and I think the costumes would still be worth the price of admission. Eye candy FTW!
*wide eyes* Until now, I believed that after the 1973 version, any new is needless, but I feel I can change my mind. I wouldn't watch it for Orlando, but now I want to watch it for... for THIS! (Yes, another costume geek here).
Ooooh, I'm SO happy you're a fan of the '73 version, one of the best movies EVER in my opinion. So hilarious, so well done. I adore Richard Lester's directorial style (I was a huge Beatles fan and saw A Hard Days Night about fifteen times in the theater), and Michael York -- holy cats, was he funny or what? And Raquel Welch? I remember the night we saw it in the theater, one of the best movie-going experiences ever.
Heh, maybe not as much as a fan (not as for PotC, for sure), but every other version I remember was, hmm, too plain and Hollywoodish. The '73 had such a specific flavour, so autoironical. All in all it was more screwball comedy (the king counting the diamonds in the dance! :D ) than Oh-So-Heroic-Action-Movie. And characters! York was perfectly brave and silly, eager and green, honourable and naive. Raquel was born for costume. And there was the best Milady ever.
Thank you, I haven't seen these ones yet! I've wondered why the streets are so decorated and it seems the answer is on these photos (possible spoilers). Especially on the fourteenth one.
Jack standing in front of a prison wagon and pirates to be executed from the Old Bailey (with the broadsides and grisly toy "hanged men on scaffolds" being hawked) oh my!!!!!!!!!!
Now, we can all be scared to death as well as titillated regarding all the plot points going down.
And they are certainly pumping production values and loads of detail into this movie! A serious effort to reboot the franchise it seems.
Yep, that and Jack is not in shackles but I always get jittery whenever Jack is anywhere NEAR a scaffold--must be an allergy arisen from all those early years of death fan fics! But I suspect you're right, HE's doing the rescuing.
But my lord, what a LONDON they've created for this scene!
And pretty, pretty pirate...er, um, slobber, sorry, zoned out a bit there...
When I learned about London in PotC 4, I was very excited, and now with these photos my dreams are coming true! I'm delighted with details, and with that comparison of dun clothes of ordinary people with bright liveries of coachmen.
What-a-man-can-do!Jack is back, I think, I hope, and I may just see this movie more than once. Times infinity. The setting is fantastic. And oh, Jack in action is so, so pretty ♥
My pleasure! I'll bring more if I find something. :)
Hanged toys catched also my eye (and the list of names to execute! how many them!), but speaking of Jack, it seems to me that his facial hair is a bit... greying? The fifth photo, do I see well?
I notice also they are executing "divers" "felons and thieves" as well as pirates. Since you could be hanged for stealing anything above the value of a farthing, and there are court and jail records of them hanging an 11 year-old girl for stealing a dress, and well over one hundred "offenses" carried the death penalty in the 18th cen, they never lacked for scaffold fodder!
Hmm, could be he's graying, though he didn't seem gray in the promo clip that was unveiled at San Diego Comic Con. Given the sometime quality of these candid shots, hard to say. But it would certainly give Jack even more incentive to find that Fountain of Youth!
they never lacked for scaffold fodder! True, but then I think there wouldn't be such a festivity. Perhaps it's about the crew of a pirate ship, captured en bloc? And "divers, felons and thieves" would be as synonyms? "Piracy" was only one of charges in Jack's sentence.
Given the sometime quality of these candid shots, hard to say. Yes, I also thought it can be only blurring of the image, but considering previous photos of Barbossa I think it can be also possible that the plot will be extended for years.
But it would certainly give Jack even more incentive to find that Fountain of Youth! Agreed, definitely!
Hmm, considering all you said plus the shots we've seen of Barbossa with blue wrapped around one lower leg--"peg leg"?--wonder if it's the crew of the Pearl captured and Jack is actually rescuing not only his crew but even ole' Barbs????
Oh, I didn't think on it! What a plot twist would it be! "Ey, Hector, do you prefer the noose or me for eternity, after that I'll rescue you? No problem, I'll understand if you choose the former." :D
god, speculation is such a great parlor game! Definitely YES. So much fun already, and we haven't even paid for the tickets yet. :D In Universal studios, the set could be finely guarded, but now it's the campus in operation! I'm counting on the good student brethren. Eyes and objective lenses from every one bush and corner around. *rubs hands*
I have one more today, here. I'll be writing in my journal and considering that by far more people will read it at your, feel free to repost the links. I'll be tagging "making potc 4". Deal? :)
Me again! Where you are, what a day! :D -->CLICK<-- Forgive me all that massive spamming, but... you can see what's going there! I'm exciting! Ehh, what a pity, I'll be out of the net for a few days, I can hardly wait to see the fandom thoughts. Bye for now. :)
At your service, ma'am. :) I've been doing it for a dozen or so months on a some fan-forum, so why not on LJ too, with pleasure. And you're one of my sources, so your google alerts can keep the head high, if not hands. ;) So, ahem, *smoothes her clothes, takes off the hat and bows* may I friend you? :)
