dwgm: Kimi Birds (WTF?)

MetaMetaMeta!!!

Holy cats, as if the discussion generated by my previous post wasn't enough, [livejournal.com profile] mimesere has posted a picspam on Norrington that has resulted in a really thought-provoking study of Norrington and Will's actions after Elizabeth was taken, and now she's got another one going about the question of whether Jack is a Hero or not. Oh, and then yesterday she wrote up a little rant blasting "darkfic" (which I totally agreed with, btw).

Gosh, why did it take me so long to friend this lady? I love this stuff!

Check it out, people!

Ooh thank you! I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning! (yeah I know what time it is but I got to bed late). This and another chapter of Alchemical Prescription. AND another chapter of As If In Storm...

Life is good.

Jeesh, I hope [livejournal.com profile] mimesere doesn't get mad at me. I've just been having too much fun with this. Must stop and do some writing!!

What's As If In Storm? PotC? Or something else?

What's As If In Storm? PotC?

Oooh yes indeedy-dee, it's actually As If In Storm Lurked Calm and Peace (but I was too lazy to type all that) by [livejournal.com profile] cjk1701. Posted in both [livejournal.com profile] sparrington & [livejournal.com profile] _norrington. The first chapter hooked me, with her characterization of Norrington after Jack's "departure" at the end of the movie... I'm such a sucker for that stuff anyway, and she did it so well. Check it out! see what you think.

Wow! That was a great fic! Thanks for the rec!!

Oh goodie, glad you liked!

Hey that first chapter, Norrington's POV... I got so caught up reading that, it was almost a disappointment when it ended... which, of course, it had to do, for the plot to go forward, etc. But man, I could read that all day. Norrington owns me, I swear.

Norrie's great, but it's all Jack, all the time with me. Fortunately that had them both, and very very well done.

Have you read Gloria's The World Turned Upside Down? I love it so much. And KayJay's Moonverse is amazing. That's what got me reading slash, back a year ago now. I was devastated by the end of that. Truly.

Well I don't want to imply that my lurve for Norrie diminishes my lurve for Jack in any way! It's Sparrington that really owns me. I adore each of them, and I especially adore them together.

No I haven't seen Gloria's story! In fact, I just now saw the link on [livejournal.com profile] elessil's wonderful essay. Will read it asap!

But Moonverse, oh yes, that was my first as well... not first slash, but first PotC fic. I hadn't even known there was PotC fic. I'd only seen the movie once, and it was good, and Johnny Depp is nice looking, yadda yadda. After Moonverse, wow, it was a whole new movie, and I bought the DVD, and the rest is history, very happy history :)))

Oh, yes, go read right away!!! It is my favorite Sparrington, along with KayJay's Jjail, which I have an inordinant love for. I think she should write comedy. Her Moonverse is superb, but so heartbreaking.

OH, that's wonderful! "Mr. Byrd" ar ar ar

Moonverse, oh I know, superb indeed, and what an ending! But at least (unlike a Certain Other Fic) it leaves open... possibilities. So it's not quite as devastating. (that's not to say I didn't shed a tear or two.. or three...)

Oh yes. Where there's life, there's hope, and all that. But still, when Jack is leaving, and reveals that he's exchanged swords with James? Heavens, what a scene.

Oh, I love "Mr. Byrd"!!! And James throwing the pillow at the door after Jack's parting shot--such a great note to end it on.

Gloria's Sparrington "Sentences" are excellent, too--not as fascinating as JS/JS, but close.

when Jack is leaving, and reveals that he's exchanged swords with James

Oh god! I'm gonna get all choked up again thinking about it. Just beautiful. I sooo hope eventually she'll write them a reunion!

Gloria's "Sentences" -- is that a 4 pt thing, each part 1 sentence? If so... oh wow it's been nagging at me today after reading World Upside Down... I knew I'd seen the sequence before, that bit where James has a little taste and it sets him off (so to speak). And THAT'S where I saw it! Ooh yes, hot stuff there :))

Yes, those are the ones. So clever. And hot.

I adore [livejournal.com profile] mimesere Her picspammy Norrington meta is always insightful with an edge of sarcasm. *teh love*

Does "Dark" have to be faux?

[identity profile] teresa-c.livejournal.com 2005-03-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
But, um, I LIKE hurt/comfort. I like it a lot. And, often, the more hurt the better the comfort. Couldn't darkfic just be feeding my kink, not necessarily trying to be faux deep? Doesn't darkfic ever have good characterizations? I think this, like many rants, is a little over-generalized.

I think the fic that set her off on this rant was one that had been posted to [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm earlier that day, in which the "hurt" element was overdone to a ridiculous extent--Norrington raped repeatedly, presumably so Jack could "heal" him with his magical sexual prowess (although I didn't read that far). Really, really bad.

I love h/c, too, as you may have noticed, but, like smut, I need it to have a certain touch of logic, plot and good writing.
