Piratey Fic Recs

There are some great new fics out there...

Along with all the OMGWTF bouncing that's been going on about the very obvious J/E vibe in Dead Man's Chest, there has also been considerable controversy, not to say dismay, over the seeming deterioration of ex-Commodore James (yes, it's really canon now!) Norrington. His character has taken an interesting turn in the movie, to say the least -- not what most of us were expecting at all.

[livejournal.com profile] gileonnen, whom I remember from her work that was posted to [livejournal.com profile] webcrowmancer's beautiful, and now defunct, site wrote Learning the Quarry (PG), which is set a month before DMC begins and has Norrington in Tortuga trying to learn the ways of pirates in general and Sparrow in particular. As a result, there are excellent opportunities for Sparrow-description (which is always fun to read!) and there's a good explanation of Norrington's presence and condition at the beginning of DMC. It's Sparrington, but only PG, and well worth reading.

[livejournal.com profile] monimala has been favoring us with some wonderful J/E stories and meta which are listed on the J/E Recs page, but she's also written two great Norrington/Anamaria fics, A Darker Destiny Besides and Something Out of Nothing.

Fic as Meta: Returning to that "J/E vibe" and all it's many implications and complications, I must draw your attention to [livejournal.com profile] erinya's new fic, Sacrifice, even though I've already added it to the J/E Recs page. It does an absolutely fantastic job of delineating Elizabeth's thoughts and feelings during her final scene with Jack. It's exactly what was up there on that screen. Also, it has produced some really interesting comments and analysis.

And lastly, [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria has written non-crossover PotC fic for the first time in quite a while. It's Reclaimed (G), and it's Davy Jones to the letter, cruel and fascinating.

Oh yum! I'm off to scan and see the new stuff. I'm jazzing for new PotC fiction. By the way, pop over to my latest entry if you get a chance. One of my flist, a very talented writer who usually stays within the HP realm, wrote a Norrington/Elizabeth ficlet for me. It is fantastic! I've linked to it.

I'll check it out -- I need to write a Norrington/Elizabeth one myself for the Norrington Angstation. Eeep! Time's running out.

Thanks for the rec! Ooh, and "Reclaimed" is truly wonderful.

I keep meaning to write actual meta on DMC, but it's so much more fun to fic it.

[livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria is a fantastic writer.

Fic as Meta is great, though, and not everyone can do it. It really started a wonderful bunch of comments there. Do it some more!!

Hi, yeah, I've been seeing your name pop up, too. I'll friend you back, too, OK?

You're welcome for the recs -- there have been some great new stories posted since DMC came out, and I can't resist reccing some of them. I also need to add one I forgot, which is more Fic as Meta -- [livejournal.com profile] fabu's Stolen Waters. But perhaps you've seen that one already?

Nope - going to read it right now, thanks!

Thanks, I had missed two of these.
