If you enjoy Sparrabeth, don't miss [livejournal.com profile] klp_8's The Captain, an alternate conclusion for AWE in which "Davy Jones never stabbed Will, so Will never stabbed the heart… Jack did."

Just amazing, gorgeous writing, and complete in three parts...

Chapter 1: Cursed
Chapter 2: Between
Chapter 3: A Thousand Candles

Two more days and I'll be back at work. It's been a lovely couple of weeks off, though, and good fic has been icing on the cake. I owe big thanks to...

[livejournal.com profile] tiamary who wrote me the lovely and so very funny Home for the Twelfth Night in the [livejournal.com profile] merrypirates fic exchange;

[livejournal.com profile] savepurness, who wrote me the beautiful and angsty The Ghosts of Christmases Past in the [livejournal.com profile] 3fan_holiday fic exchange;

[livejournal.com profile] luvvycat who is writing The Christmas Stranger - Part One, Part Two, and Part Three, with at least one more to go, maybe two! Wheee! What fun!

And [livejournal.com profile] celandineb wrote me two great drabbles for Christmas, Good News (W/E, on my Christmas card!), and The Geese Are Getting Fat (W/E/J, Christmas in England, per my request).

More wonderful reads...

[livejournal.com profile] artaxastra has written the hilarious New Years Day in the Green Room, featuring Jack Sparrow and SGA's John Sheppard. "Bloody bloody bloody Marys."

[livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria has written new [livejournal.com profile] impofperversity fic, Junctus Sordidissimus: or, The Virtues of Literacy, and it's perfect funny and edgy and, yes, heartwarming in that unique Impverse way. (R - Slash)

[livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen received a wonderful Blackadder fic for Yuletide, Somewhat Akin to a Limpet by Skew, and the characterizations are perfect.

Over at Archive of Our Own, [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla posted a PotC fic she wrote back in July '03, right after CotBP came out, black eyes, "In which Jack Sparrow is the Han Solo of the Caribbean. With makeup." - great Jack Sparrow action here, very entertaining!

And last (for now) but definitely not least, some weeks ago [livejournal.com profile] p0wdermonkey finished her Nuts Out of the Locker series with a two part ending that actually makes sense of the final bits of AWE. Amazing and hilarious, and I, for one, am so grateful to her. (NC-17 - Slash)

Happy New Year, everyone!

I love to laugh, and [livejournal.com profile] tiamary wrote a hilarious example of epistolary storytelling for me in the [livejournal.com profile] merrypirates fic exchange, -- Home for the Twelfth Night. Don't miss it!
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Jack - FTW! by Sepira)
For a good time, here are two fabulously funny fics you might want to check out: [livejournal.com profile] hippediva's Teague's Boy (Summary: A brief look into Captain Teague's trials of parenting.), and [livejournal.com profile] penknife's Merlin/PotC crossover, To Say Nothing of the Goat (Summary: Everything's better with pirates. Including Camelot.)

1. [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2, who has time and again proven herself a brilliant artist, now gives us fic! What's Blue and Gray All Over is set in the Good Omens universe (the one Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett made up) and is wonderfully entertaining (and I'm not saying that just because I had the privilege of beta reading for her). You should check it out!

2. As The Wife Of Riley and others on my flist have reminded us, today is Johnny Depp's birthday. We have, of course, already given him his gift, and have received his note of thanks. There is a nice Vanity Fair article about him officially hitting the stands today in most of the country. ;)
dwgm: (California Wildflowers)
Angelic Demons in the Weetzie Bat universe, featuring Witch Baby Bat/Angel Juan Perez, theme set alpha at [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence -- these made me remember why I loved those books so much.

One of the very first multi-chaptered PotC stories I read here on Live Journal was [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon's A Pirate's Life and I have fond memories of it to this day. It's E/W/J, but not explicit, and it's really a wonderful post-CotBP story.

Recently she offered to write short pieces by request, and I requested more E/W/J. She came through with this delightful look at the threesome, post-AWE, for which I owe her profound thanks. Again, there is no explicit sex, but there is a lot packed into that 750 words. Check it out!

Some of these tabs have been open in my browser for weeks and they're just too good not to share.

Amazing pictures of Waves! I can't remember where I got that link, but big thanks to whoever posted it first.

More water in the world's largest pool!

Great post on period clothing at [livejournal.com profile] perfect_duet, an Aubrey-Maturin comm.

Prose so purple it'll have you rolling. This excerpt of A PUBLISHED WORK, OMG, was first pointed out to me by [livejournal.com profile] hereswith and then referenced by [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon a couple of days ago. Don't neglect to check out the comments (although there are 17 pages of them now, and a lot of bad-words-of-profound-disbelief therein), and also the rest of the chapter. 0.o

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2 for emailing me the link to this one. Beautiful!

This is about a gentle passing and a beautiful goodbye. Tir Nan Og is the fabled "Country of Youth," located beneath the crystal waters of a clear lake. It is a magical place, where you never age and you never die. Basically the ancient Celtic version of Heaven.

Those of you who have been members of the Black Pearl Sails Yahoo Group are already familiar with some of the wonderful PotC artwork [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2 has produced for us for the last four years, but now, for the first time, she has given us permission to host all her Pirates illustration art and cartoons at Black Pearl Tales, the archive website for Black Pearl Sails and Black Pearl Library. I am just thrilled that so many more of you will be able to see and enjoy her work!

Her latest piece is an illustration for [livejournal.com profile] florencia7's recent drabble, Marred Elegance (one of her series of stories that features Jack, Elizabeth, and their son, Blaxton) and holy cats, it's adorable!

Links to Marred Elegance and [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2's artwork are on the home page of

dwgm: Kimi Birds (Star Wars)
I was a big Star Wars fan when the original trilogy was being produced, back in the late 70's, early 80's, and Leia/Han becoming canon in Empire was like a dream come true - bless you, George Lucas, for giving me and a zillion other fangirls what they wanted! [livejournal.com profile] hereswith recently sent me over to read Victory, Later by [livejournal.com profile] jeanniemctavish, and it's so good, SO good, fits right in with canon, with a perfectly characterized Han and Leia, angsty, sweet, and just a little hot, wonderful stuff!
dwgm: Kimi Birds (J/E Fire by Erinya)
[livejournal.com profile] djarum99 didn't start writing PotC until after DMC came out, so she's playing catch-up here with her new Island fic, Sea Change. As I said in my comment to her...

I've run across island fics in which sex is had, but the circumstances were always less than believable. But this is so logical, leads them there, step by step, never discounting the very real barriers that must be swept aside for that one encounter. Jack is both pirate and good man in this, and Elizabeth's determination, curiosity, and tenderness are exactly right.

Beautifully done!
dwgm: Kimi Birds (PotC - Monkey!)
I've rec'ed [livejournal.com profile] p0wdermonkey's Nuts Out series before -- hilarious, perfect mad Jack, with touches of Awwwww... thrown in to savor the pot. Her latest offering, Sixth Nut Out of the Locker, is just as wonderful, covering the portion of AWE that includes Jack's encounter with Sao Feng, his discussion in Beckett's cabin, his escape from the Endeavor (with attendant Jacks in tow), and his talk with Will later that night. Rated 'R' for language and references to the shenanigans between Jack and Barbossa in Nuts 5. Superb writing! Don't miss it.
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Butterflies)
And that's as far as we'll go with that. But...

1) April is poetry month. I'm going to try to post some favorite poems. [livejournal.com profile] ladymora posted a whole bunch of love poems in February, and now [livejournal.com profile] fabu is posting a poem a day. Very cool.

2) My horiscope from The Onion seems particularly appropriate today...

The stars indicate this is a good week to get your life in order, making you glad you don't believe in all that astrology crap.

3) In case any of you missed it last August, [livejournal.com profile] sharklady35 reminded me how funny this is...

Speaking of the Fountain of Youth ...
Waaaay back when, right after Curse of the Black Pearl made its debut, and long before Dead Man's Chest and At World's End were more than a twinkle in Jerry Bruckheimer's eye, a wonderful artist named P.S. Nim drew this graphic novel...

ETA: 4) If you like bread, check out this post by [livejournal.com profile] thistle_verse about Bread Porn!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] thistle_verse has that f-locked, so here's a link to the book on Amazon, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking.

That is all. Have a wonderful day, everyone!
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Reading - P&P Elizabeth)
Gird Thou Thy Sword by [livejournal.com profile] watersword (link goes to her Insane Journal, for which she abandoned LJ some months ago). Post-CotBP, Will and Elizabeth marry and go off to play pirates on the Pearl, to Jack's delight and dismay. Fabulous Jack voice. Pairing: Pearl/Jack/Elizabeth/Will. PG-13. Not to be missed.
dwgm: Kimi Birds (J/E - by wapiti_baris)
Most of my flist has read [livejournal.com profile] piratemistress's Dear Jack, but if you missed it, as I did until this morning, go read! It's post-AWE in epistolary form, superb in all its details, funny, and heartbreaking, and perfect. So much love!

[livejournal.com profile] piratemistress is a wonderful writer, and here is a list of all the PotC she's written.

Recs pages are a great way to find the best stories. Check out the recs page [livejournal.com profile] fried_flamingo posted -- which is where I found Dear Jack. Also, I've added a few new stories to the J/E recs page that [livejournal.com profile] hereswith and I compile.

A final note: the drabble challenge of the week at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails is "I should have...", and we've gotten over a dozen entries so far, and such wonderful ones, too! Thanks to all who have participated, and if you haven't, get to work! Only a hundred words! You can doooo eeeet!!

And now, I have to get ready to go to lunch and the opera (Othello) in L.A. Happy Sunday, all!
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Jack - Pirate Gold)
A really funny, yet thrilling story, first recced to me by [livejournal.com profile] sharklady35, and many thanks to her for it! Features Jack, who's just had that "mark" left on him by that rabid agent of the East India Trading Company, the monster responsible for everything that was bad in the world, Beckett. (Beckett also features in Jack's head as "diminutive dragon" and various other humorous epithets.) Jack somehow escapes before he can be hanged, and chaos ensues. The author, Aquenniel (check out her Ode to Windows Vista on her profile page), includes the narrator's own observations of the fine mess, which adds to the hilarity. Don't miss...

The Battle of Brimstone Hill
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Tina)
1) Watched Napoleon Dynamite FINALLY, this evening. I really liked it, much to [livejournal.com profile] gingersnapps dismay. Guess you had to be there. Made the icon for [livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6 -- it's her favorite quote.
J and V
2) I like Daniel Day Lewis, but Johnny should have won. There's a cute article under the picture at right...

Speaking of JD, [livejournal.com profile] depp_daily has had so many amazing and amusing picspams this week -- certainly brightens my day!

3) We've had a spectacular number of wonderful drabbles posted to Black Pearl Sails (the Yahoo Group) and [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails this week for the 'Inch' theme! Many thanks to all who participated! A new drabble challenge will be posted tomorrow.

Good Night, All!
