djarum99 didn't start writing PotC until after DMC came out, so she's playing catch-up here with her new Island fic, Sea Change. As I said in my comment to her...

I've run across island fics in which sex is had, but the circumstances were always less than believable. But this is so logical, leads them there, step by step, never discounting the very real barriers that must be swept aside for that one encounter. Jack is both pirate and good man in this, and Elizabeth's determination, curiosity, and tenderness are exactly right.

Off subject, but I have a question about acceptable ratings on blackpearlsails, for future reference in drabble posting, and perhaps other fic as well. I tend to err on the side of caution in rating most of my fics N17, I think. My understanding was that nothing above an "R" was OK on BPS, but I noticed another fic (a good one, and not particularly graphic) was posted there and rated N17. Could you give me some feedback on this? I'd love to post there, and some of my work doesn't include sex (OK, not much :-) - also have some drabble bunnies lurking that are fairly steamy.

I was wondering what in heck, so I went back and looked. Totally missed that one. I've emailed the author, but I need to check with erinrua, too.

The thing is, there are heaps of venues to post hard-R and NC-17 fic, but blackpearlsails is the only place I know of that's got a rating limit and is non-slash. Personally, I am all about the smut, and love PotC slash, too, when it's well-written, but I think it's important that there is at least one place where more sensitive souls can browse "safely", or where a parent can go say to their teen, "OK, you can read anything posted at this community."

I tend to go by hippediva's guidelines for ratings...

Gen: romance, kisses, ivory-mild swearing
PG: kisses and mild swearing
PG-13: snogging, general piratey violence,'bugger'
R: snogging and non-graphic 'softcore shags, 4-letter wds
NC-17 or X: total debauchery

...but that still gives one a lot of leeway.

erinrua mentioned a while back that we could post links to NC-17 material. The only problem I see with that is will we need to allow links to slash fics as well? Gah! The whole thing is way too complicated. I don't want to be the captain anymore. *whines*

I'll email erinrua (who is the Admiral, and has the final say, these are communities SHE established after all) and ask her what she thinks.

Oh, noes! I absolutely do not wish to inflict headdesking, love, and I totally understand wanting to keep the community as the kind of place you describe. I suspect a lot of my stories are more "R" than "N17," but I share your sentiments and prefer to err in that direction. I love writing the drabbles, which don't lend themselves well to teh hot sexing anyway, given the word limit, and I'm perfectly happy to post everything else, elsewhere :-)

I've emailed erinrua, so we'll see what she says. I do love your drabbles (and your other work as well, of course) and hope that we'll see lots more from you. As you said, 100 words isn't really conducive to a lot of graphic detail, anyway.
