Recs:
woolymonkey has written a hilarious pair of post-Locker fics, First Nut Out of the Locker (from Jack's pov) and Second Nut Out of the Locker: Like Nuts for Bananas (from Barbossa's pov). They are slashy, yes, but sooooo much more than that.
bravenewcentury wrote, per my request on her "Give me a topic..." meme, of Pirates and Pietists, about religion in the era of PotC -- very interesting post, as are
artaxastra's comments.
And then,
fabu posted some meta on female characters yesterday, calling into question fans who label female fanfic characters "sluts" or "whores" for sexual behaviors, anything from mere flirting onward, that would be given a pass, or even be applauded, in a male character. Post and comments (which are well past 250 now) are really interesting.
( Her post isn't specific to PotC, but... )
( Speaking of Norrington... )
( One more point: much is made of that hurricane off Tripoli... )

May. 26th, 2007 08:25 pm... and then again, not. Pictures from the El Capitan, and my thoughts on AWE.
( Pirate!Crack, Ahoy!! )
So on to my thoughts, which got very long, and in which superlatives are repeated far too often.
( Sorry if this is a bit rambling, dropped my brain on the floor of the theater... )

J/E vs. W/E
Jan. 15th, 2007 03:11 pmWith the third movie of the pirates trilogy still five months away, the debate over who should end up with Elizabeth has gotten so crazy they've even closed down some of the threads regarding same on Keep to the Code (or so I've heard -- I rarely go there as it makes me crazy). Enter
blondeheroine with a lucid, step-by-step analysis of why Jack and Elizabeth belong together.
It's not that I don't love Will. It's just that, like
blondeheroine , I saw the essential compatibility of J/E from my first viewing of Curse of the Black Pearl. And apparently Ted and Terry saw it, too, planned it that way, actually. It's a Disney show, and there are a lot of chefs in the kitchen, so whether AWE ends up that way or not is a moot point, really. It's just good to know we were right.

Yes, it’s long, but like CotBP it’s a great ride for those 2 ½ hours. Here are my first impressions...
( Arrrr! Extreme spoilers lie ahead, maties. Ye be properly warned, says I. )
I'll probably think of more later, but these were my first impressions. The movie succeeds admirably as a summertime popcorn muncher and pull-out-the-stops storybook showcase of all things piratical and nautical. It is a worthy sequel to CotBP as, even as long a movie as it is, it emulates that first movie in leaving us with a hunger for more.
