Greetings to all you wonderful piratey folk! As we prepare to celebrate the holidays, and the tenth anniversary of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, I hope you will all sign up for the Twelve Days of Christmas Fic/Fanart Festival at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails. We've had great success with this challenge these last two years -- check out the offerings from 2010 and 2011.

As was the case last year, you can write anything from a hundred word drabble to a long story, or make icons or banners, share your fanart, or even share great links you've found that we'd all enjoy, holiday themed or not! It'll start on Christmas Day (for which I've signed up again) and run for twelve days, through January 5th. Let me know in comments here if you'd like to participate, and if you have a preference as to date.

The original sign up post is at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails, and I'll repost there and here on my journal over the next couple of weeks (or until we have a pirate for each day).

I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] azalaisdep in [livejournal.com profile] celandineb's [livejournal.com profile] 3fan_holidays fic exchange, with many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for her sharp eye in editing. This is the fifth story in a series I began writing in 2004…

First Christmas: The Christmas Guest – in which Jack spends Christmas as a guest in the governor's house and certain proposals are made.

Second Christmas: The Perfect Gift – in which Elizabeth talks Jack into helping her obtain the perfect gift for Will, and a misunderstanding occurs.

Third Christmas: Making Amends – in which Anamaria is at odds with Groves, until a desperate situation arises during the holidays.

Fourth Christmas: A Christmas Accord – in which Jack's roving eye lights on Elizabeth's maid, Estrella.

And now…

I love writing -- and reading -- Christmas stories! This one is set a year after Home for the Holidays, a story I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] erinya, formatted as a series of drabbles that were set in my post-AWE Shipwreck Cove universe (which was originally borrowed from inspired by [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra's fabulous Outlaws and Inlaws series). One of said drabbles featured Pintel and Ragetti, and this year, in the [livejournal.com profile] merrypirates holiday fic exchange, [livejournal.com profile] were_lemur requested some more P&R - "discussing /arguing /geeking about something Christmas-related a la the krayken/krawken discussion. Or just messing up christmas in some hilariously well-intentioned way". This story is the result.

Many thanks, as always, to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for editing.

Thought I'd post this here, as well...

Every year at Black Pearl Sails, the Yahoo Group, we've had a Secret Santa Fic / Fanart Exchange, and this year I'd like to open it up to our members on Live Journal, too. It's a little more laid back than some of the exchanges. Just comment here with what you'd like to write/draw and what you'd like to receive, and I'll match them up. Fics can be any length, and the deadline will be between December 20-25 -- you'll be responsible for posting your own work.

If you'd like to join in the fun, comment to this post, where all comments are screened. Or email me at geekmama at gmail dot com if you have further questions or comments.

I'll be matching up participants on Wednesday, btw, so Wednesday morning is the deadline to sign up.

As others have said before me, bullet points make a post.

  • Yay for another three-day weekend!!!!!!
  • Gen Battle going on at[info]fox1013 's journal, PotC prompts are here, posts go here in comments and must be no longer than the permitted length of a comment (4300 characters). Go to it!
  • There is a 'Love' challenge at[info]kahva 's Yahoo Group, Black Pearl Library. I think every one of us can write to that theme (but remember that BP Library is non-slash and limited to soft 'R' like Sails).
  • [info]hseas_challenge  #3 has yet to be answered. Ye writers of smut, get thee to it!
  • HUGE storm here today, the grapevine (pass through the hills from the San Fernando Valley to the San Joaquin Valley) is closed already due to snow, and alas I can't stay in the house by the fire, I am meeting friends for lunch, and going to dinner and the library with daughter (good things both, but what if I melt in the rain?). Must write the next bit of AEB first, however, and hopefully a couple more by the time I get too tired to write tonight (about 8:30 P.M. lately. Argh.).
I'd best get writing. Barbossa has things to say.
dwgm: Kimi Birds (Jack - Oops!)
Managed to come up with 200 words for [livejournal.com profile] hseas_challenge #2: h/c. This is J/E and probably rated 'R', though it's more suggestive than explicit. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for beta reading!

Summary: Jack gets 'stuck' on shore; Lizzie comes to the rescue... )
dwgm: Kimi Birds (PotC: Map to World's End)
There's been an extra drabble challenge going on at the Black Pearl Sails Yahoo group, offered by Queensparrow, called Winds of Change. In her words:

Anyway since most of know how AWE (At World's End) turned out, this Drabble can be about your own opinion about how did Elizabeth handled her situation about Will having to be Captain of the Flying Dutchman and about their child. What happened to Captain Jack Sparrow. Did he go looking for the Fountain of Youth or did he meet up with the Pearl and then threaten Barbossa? How did Will even know Elizabeth was going to give birth to their son? Whatever ye muses are?

An anniversary reminder about the Winds of Change drabble challenge came in my email a while ago -- the deadline is April 2nd -- and I was suddenly inspired to drop everything and try to write my version (and yes, there are elements common to other authors, as usual for me). It ended up being three drabbles, a hundred words apiece, and the very last line is linked to a short fic I did a while back.

Unbetaed, and hopefully there aren't a lot of errors.

I participated in the Yuletide fic exchange this year, and it was quite an experience. Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy was one of the fandoms I both requested and offered to write, and I received The Grand Sophy is Surprised by [livejournal.com profile] gloriana, which I just loved. In addition, I received an extra "Yuletide Treat", Christmas Red by Willow Smith, which is based on Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades, another favorite book of mine!

I wrote En Dishabille for [livejournal.com profile] neonhummingbird, which turned out surprisingly well for my first foray outside PotC in many years. My deepest thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith and [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway who both beta read for me, and whose input certainly improved the story.

Yuletide inspired 1291 authors to produce 2031 stories in 733 small fandoms, and the organization of the whole thing was a work of art in itself. Pretty amazing, I must say! Check out some of the stories there, if you get a chance -- some great writers participated, and with that many fandoms represented there is something for anyone and everyone.

We started a little late, but had a very successful Secret Santa Fic Exchange at the Black Pearl Sails Yahoo group.
I got mine in just before the deadline today, due to research needs, flailing indecision, and (as usual) procrastination of a high order. Fortunately I was able to get down to writing on Sunday evening, continued (with some interruptions) all day yesterday, and sent the last of it to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith to edit early this afternoon (and thank goodness she was available to look these over for me).

There are twelve drabbles of varying lengths, written for [livejournal.com profile] erinya per her Secret Santa request: Jack visiting Shipwreck Cove for Christmas. In the spirit of hundreds of movies about coming home for the holidays. Humor, romance, family antics--whatever strikes Santa's fancy. If she wants to add a little J/E romantic comedy in there, so much the better, but I won't mind if she doesn't. Some sappiness is totally okay.

Obviously the whole thing is very Christmassy, but I know there are folks like me who truly love the holiday and won't mind a little recap of last week's joy.

Lastly, yes, this is Jack/Elizabeth, for the most part, though lots of other characters get to put in their two cents. And yes, once again I'm borrowing elements of [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra's wonderful post-AWE series, Outlaws and Inlaws. My deepest thanks to her!

[livejournal.com profile] celandineb posted my [livejournal.com profile] 3fan_holidays story, which I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] ceria_taliesin per her request of W/E/J. The story stands all right on its own, but it's part of one of my post-Curse of the Black Pearl A/U's, and takes place a year after The Christmas Guest, two years before A Christmas Accord, and about six years before Dancing Day. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for editing and many helpful suggestions!

I wrote this story for [livejournal.com profile] celandineb's [livejournal.com profile] 3fan_holidays challenge. The recipient was [livejournal.com profile] ceria_taliesin, and she wanted W/E or W/E/J. This story stands all right on its own, but it's part of one of my post-Curse of the Black Pearl A/U's, and takes place a year after The Christmas Guest. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for editing and many helpful suggestions.

This is another one of those gapfiller stories for [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra's too-inspiring Outlaws and Inlaws 'verse. I wrote it a while back, right after she posted Force of Nature, and while the [livejournal.com profile] potcfest was still going on. It’s for Prompt #8: Jack/Elizabeth, earrings, which was requested by [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen. It also happens to fit into my [livejournal.com profile] 10_hurt_comfort table, for the prompt “Tears”. Only two more to go on that! And it’s only been a little over a year, lol!

I waited to post this as it was past the [livejournal.com profile] potcfest deadline anyway, and because it directly follows the developments in Force of Nature. [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra assures me it won't conflict with what she has planned for Jack and Elizabeth as she continues the story, however.

Many thanks, as always, to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for editing and suggestions.

Written for the Witching Hour challenge on [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm ("One canon character's POV, the worst nightmare ever, 500 wd. min. Due Oct. 31st."). Here I am posting 621 words an hour before the deadline (we're talking Pacific Daylight Time, of course).

I signed up a little late, only two days ago, but I had an Idea for Sao Feng (though I have no icon for him, so my Will Turner one will have to suffice -- he's in it too). Finished it this morning, and [livejournal.com profile] hereswith burned the midnight oil editing it for me -- I owe her!

This is kind of dark, and not in a Halloween sense, so be warned.

Eeeeep! I got a [livejournal.com profile] yuletide assignment in which 2 of the requests were doable and 1 was PERFECT. And now they say it was a mistake!
