Sunday Morning Links...

Johnny Depp in Puerto Rico - still yummy.

Looking for Mr. Goodfish - column by Dave Barry from '04. I'd forgotten how funny he is. So cute!

Twelve Amazing Pencil Sculptures - the artist is...

Jennifer Maestre - and her website is beautiful, created by...

BonsaiStudios - very beautiful work here, design-wise, and they utilize...

Kuler.Adobe.Com - the most fabulous color palate tool I've ever come across! Take a look at...

this video showing some of Kuhler's features - holy cats! Where was this when I was picking paint for my front rooms?

Now I want to do a redesign of the school's website (I'm the office manager and the webmaster, don't you know).

On a totally unrelated note, [livejournal.com profile] alg mentioned she is reading A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett on Project Gutenberg, which has grown amazingly since the last time I checked it out -- they even have audiobooks available! Got to browsing there, of course, and ran across Adventures in the Rifle Brigade in the Peninsula, France, and the Netherlands from 1809 to 1815 by Captain J. Kincaid, who was a friend of that same Harry Smith that Georgette Heyer wrote about in The Spanish Bride, which tells the story of Harry and his young (very young, the LJ PTB would totally flag it) bride Juana's romance during the Napoleonic War. Here is the excerpt from Chapter 8 that tells about their first meeting and subsequent liaison...

Real Romance )

One must have a heart of stone not to be moved by such a tribute. No wonder Georgette Heyer was inspired to write her novelization of the Smiths' lives.

Must get up now, going to breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6 and [livejournal.com profile] gingersnapps. Later, dudes! ;-D

Those of you who have been members of the Black Pearl Sails Yahoo Group are already familiar with some of the wonderful PotC artwork [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2 has produced for us for the last four years, but now, for the first time, she has given us permission to host all her Pirates illustration art and cartoons at Black Pearl Tales, the archive website for Black Pearl Sails and Black Pearl Library. I am just thrilled that so many more of you will be able to see and enjoy her work!

Her latest piece is an illustration for [livejournal.com profile] florencia7's recent drabble, Marred Elegance (one of her series of stories that features Jack, Elizabeth, and their son, Blaxton) and holy cats, it's adorable!

Links to Marred Elegance and [livejournal.com profile] ladymouse2's artwork are on the home page of

-- Unknown wire artist tags workplace of [livejournal.com profile] oiseaurobyn -- so cool!

-- [livejournal.com profile] justawench has established [livejournal.com profile] potc_universe, ...for sharing information about all aspects of the POTC universe - from ships and sailing to period dress and slang - for the promotion of historical accuracy. Very much my cup of tea! Her latest post is "...about breeches, trousers, and stockings" -- [livejournal.com profile] justawench says, Being as obsessive as I am about costuming, it hurts my soul when POTC characters "unzip" their "pants.". Argh! I feel her pain. Join! Post! So much fun to research history for the improvement of Pirate!fic.

[livejournal.com profile] ceria_taliesin pointed out this article on fanfiction by John Jurgensen of the Wall Street Journal. I am so not the only one, LOL! Which is what I used to think, of course.

[livejournal.com profile] spicedrum lifted this link about amazing Danish artist Peter Callesen from [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla

[livejournal.com profile] erinya has written Johnny/Keira RPF (Real Person Fic) -- A Little Knowledge, part 1 and part 2. I don't ordinarily read RPF, but hey, in [livejournal.com profile] erinya's hands it's a thing of beauty.

[livejournal.com profile] artaxastra posted the final chapter of To Trouble the Ocean, a great post-DMC story. Must add to the recs page.

That is all. Happy Saturday, everyone!

[livejournal.com profile] fabu and [livejournal.com profile] minisoo recced this post, but it bears repeating: How To Change The World.

[livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6 and I went to see Ashes and snow down at the Santa Monica pier yesterday. If you live in the L.A. area, don't miss it. A picspam follows...

Said happy birthday to Uncle Fran, too -- he enjoyed the lemon mousse cake we brought, and the pot of pretty freesias.

Also had lunch at The Lobster Restaurant -- Fillet of Sole with a lemon/caper sauce and artichoke hearts; mashed potatos; asparagus, salad of mixed baby greens with pecans, dried cherries, blue cheese and balsamic vinegrette; good bread with that olive oil/herb/garlic stuff; and espresso protiferoles with coffee crunch ice cream and sliced strawberry garnish. Mmmm.

Must zoom. Downtown Disney followed by Pirate Show in Buena Park tonight.

Happy Easter/Passover/Spring/etc. to all.
