Fic: 'The Moral Advantage: Pillow Talk' (5/?)

Wrote this in response to the current drabble challenge at blackpearlsails, theme: 'pillow'. This bit is out of order, I'm still working on part 4 of the story, but the first three parts are here...

~ The Moral Advantage: Pillow Talk ~

As Chevalle’s Fancy sank below the eastern horizon, a squall was rising fast in the west and Jack gave orders to shorten and reef sail.

“Violent, but it’ll be over by this afternoon. You stay in here and have a nap,” Jack told Elizabeth, and gulped the rest of his coffee.

She was obviously tired after a fraught morning, but nevertheless bridled on cue. “Is that an order? I’ve been in plenty of storms, Captain Sparrow.”

“It is an order,” he snapped. “It’s not just your own pretty hide at stake if you take a tumble, is it?”

She flushed. “Well. All right, then.”

“All right,” Jack agreed, trying not to look smug at her swift capitulation. He was apparently unsuccessful. He bent and kissed her pouting lips.

But hours later, when the Pearl was peacefully riding the swells of the aftermath and the rays of sunset peeked from under the clouds to gild the sea, Jack returned to the cabin to find her in his bed, blinking sleepily from amongst the many pillows.

“I’m afraid I could get used to this,” she murmured with a smile.

“So could I,” he agreed, and was rather astonished at how very true it was.

Sorry, naw, not so, Happy as a clam to say, can't help it don't want to help it--I like what you've writ from the first thing I've read about three years ago. Haven't ever been left hanging==you come home with treasure and it was always worth the voyage!! If you'd just write crummy stories wouldn't be a problem, but you keep turning gold. Do like your stories--makes me yeah, happy as a clam. A

I could get used to it, squalls and all - nothing better than sleeping on a ship while there's weather going on, and you know that there's other people on the bridge taking care of the ship.

Very sweet. I am assuming (looking forward to) a bit of a confrontation in part 4 though... :-)

So happy to you've posted another chapter! I'm loving this story so far, and this short, but sweet, chapter's no exception! :-)

Love Jack when he gets all caring and solicitous (and typical Lizzie: argue first, see reason later at any whiff of an "order" ... and hurray for Jack for sticking to his guns, and reminding her she has to be careful for two now!) ;-)

Of course Elizabeth would protest, I really liked ...but nevertheless bridled on cue. “Is that an order? I’ve been in plenty of storms, Captain Sparrow.” And the ending is very sweet, a lovely description of the aftermath, both of the squall and the two of them, with Jack's “So could I” and being rather astonished at how very true it was! I'm looking forward to more of this series ;-)

Just read parts 4 and 5. I like! Especially poignant since I'm in Lizzie's condition, eh?

I really enjoy all the snippets of back story you like to throw in to these. It really enriches the characters.

I always thought that if the one day every ten years thing was true, Will would want her to have someone else, someone who could be there for her since he can't, since he loves her and all.
