Drabble: 'Treasure' (Barbossa - G)

A hundred words (exactly!) for the current drabble challenge at blackpearlsails, pre-CotBP Barbossa, remembering...



Hector’d always been acquainted with hunger, him being the third of a half dozen whelps (and doubtless there would’ve been more if mam had remarried after da’s unfortunate mishap with the excise men). Scrabbling for enough had been a matter of course, but he’d been ruthless in pressing the advantage of craft and brawn, and mighty successful, too.

Alone in the Pearl’s Great Cabin, he occasionally allows himself to remember those bygone days, days that he knows for real treasure, now that he’s gutfoundered in this heathen trap. Bloody Sparrow and his Aztec gold.

The irony almost makes him laugh.

Thank you! This is the first thing I thought of when I saw the prompt, so I thought I'd better write it. I agree that character backstory is much fun to contemplate.
