The current drabble challenge theme at Black Pearl Sails is...

~ Belle ~

Bloody Turners. Jack pushed the end of Will’s sword aside and, holding onto his temper with both hands (really, it was too much, asking him to deal with a Bloody Turner after the ordeal he’d just been through), pulled the drawing of the key from his pocket and spread it for the whelp’s perusal. “William,” he said, with Infinite Patience, “I shall trade you the Compass, if you will help me to find this.”

Will looked entirely baffled – an expression typical of Bloody Turners. He was Bootstrap’s get, all right. He said, “You want me to find this?”

“No,” Jack replied. Infinite Patience. “You want you to find this. Because the finding of this finds you incapacitorially finding and/or locating and discovering the detecting of a way to save your dolly belle ol'... what's ‘er face. Savvy?”

Jack resisted the urge to both shiver and smack himself. What’s ‘er face, indeed. Miss Elizabeth Bloody-Minded Face-of-an-Angel Soul-of-a-Pirate Swann. Dream and nightmare rolled into one maddening, gorgeous girl. GIRL. He was old enough to be her FATHER. Well, possibly. Nearly, at least. And she was certainly a babe in arms to his hoary hoard of Vast Experience. He knew this, and it DIDN’T MATTER. She made him new, somehow. And scared him to death.

How he wished she would GO AWAY.

Except… not really.

Bloody Whip-out-his-sword-at-the-drop-of-a-hat Turner was speaking again.

“This is going to save Elizabeth?”

Save Elizabeth? Did the whelp not know her at all? Jack got a grip, forcibly shoving his mental image of the delectable and extremely capable Miss Swann behind him, and addressed the little problem at hand. “How much do you know about Davy Jones?”

“Not much.”

Of course not. And explanations were always so tedious. Two bloody Turners: Will would be safe as houses, and Davy Jones wouldn’t stand a chance. “Yeah,” Jack said. “It's gonna save Elizabeth.”

I think he was feeling a bit off just then. Or maybe through the whole movie, actually.

Glad you enjoyed!

You've treated us to chocolate again!!!

Is there any scarier place than Jack's mind? I've come to a conclusion--the reason why he sways so much is because he thinks in so many circles. Gotta be!!

Hats off to anyone who can get Jack this well.

Thanx

Kerry

I think he likes Will, and certainly relies on his foolhardy bravery. As for Elizabeth, it's a sort of love/hate thing at that point.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Jack's mind is certainly endlessly entertaining. I'm so happy you feel I've caught him here. Mmmm... chocolate! Can there be a greater compliment? I don't think so. Many thanks!!

An absolute delight! I get all a'flutter when you write Jack being so...well, Jack - his voice is a clear as a bell here, as always when you are writing Daft Jack. *smooches*

How funny. I was musing today about that part of DMC when Jack called Lizzie "what's ‘er face" and thinking, "You darn well know her name, Jack!" And here was a drabble burrowing into Jack's mind at this point of the film.

Wonderful piece of writing. You wrote Jack very well. I liked how fed up he was with Will. And his feelings towards Ms. Swann were quite complex at the moment.

I was giggling throughout the whole thing.

"Jack pushed the end of Will’s sword aside and, holding onto his temper with both (metaphorical) hands (really, it was too much, asking him to deal with a Bloody Turner after the ordeal he’d just been through)"

"Infinite Patience."

"Miss Elizabeth Bloody-Minded Face-of-an-Angel Soul-of-a-Pirate Swann. Dream and nightmare rolled into one maddening, gorgeous girl. GIRL. He was old enough to be her FATHER."

"Bloody Whip-out-his-sword-at-the-drop-of-a-hat Turner was speaking again."

"Will would be safe as houses, and Davy Jones wouldn’t stand a chance."

Hahaha. Thank you for this delightful read! Job well done. :)

That phrase "dolly belle ol' whats-'er'-face" seems so silly, and yet I think it's evidence that Jack is just not quite himself in DMC, until the very end of the movie. He seems a bit ungrateful to Will here, but I think Will's tendency to pull out his sword rather than "negotiate" (Beckett at least knows Jack that much) would make Jack forget about thanking Will for the Cannibal Island rescue and move on to the next problem to be addressed. He relies on Will's abilities, but isn't quite so fond of Will's youthful, steam-roller tactics.

I'm so happy you enjoyed Jack's train-of-thought here! Thank you for reading and commenting!

*snickers* What an intersting thought process. I like the idea that Jack knew Will would be fine since Bill was there. Makes the whole thing a bit more platable.

Hee! Not quite the brightest in the bunch, those Turners (though Will did figure out how to locate the key, later). I think one of the big disappointments of DMC was Bootstrap's being not as bright as Impverse Bill I'd hoped.

Infinite Patience
Marvelous! Makes me all bouncy, as does:
Miss Elizabeth Bloody-Minded Face-of-an-Angel Soul-of-a-Pirate Swann.

Will would be safe as houses, and Davy Jones wouldn’t stand a chance.
*adores you for this*

So wonderful to see you writing absolutely dead-on perfect Jack again.

Actually, TnT wrote about that very subject not long after the movie came out last year -- I ran across it in the Wordplayer archives. As I said above, Jack has great respect for Will's abilities, even though, like Norrington, he thinks Will is "too rash" at times. And with Bootstrap on the FD, no worries!

I never said Jack wasn't full of deviousness and self-interest. It's a good thing he's cute, and funny, too.

Glad you enjoyed!

TnT, etc., could certainly learn a thing or two from [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria and [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth, and I say that in all seriousness.

So very happy you enjoyed this one! Thanks for letting me know.

I love how well you get inside Sparrow's head, I really do X3 That spastic-yet-brilliant train of thought is wonderful to read. This was quite cute-- I particularly love when you do scenes out of one of the movies and add this depth to them ^^

I think he's always a bit off. LOL

Did you read the USA Today article a couple of weeks ago that quote Gore Verbinski as saying something to the effect of "if you thought his brain was sunburned before, it's fried now."?

'Whats-'er-face', indeed.

I really enjoyed this, as always. Spot-on Jack. I love realizing again, and again just how much his actions throughout DMC were motivated by Elizabeth, whether he'd admit it, or not.

There was certainly no profit in it, and considerable peril, as he ended up discovering. But the compass doesn't lie, even if you want it to. ;)

Thank you so much for reading and commenting -- I'm glad you enjoyed this!
