dwgmReccing Jack Sparrow backstories tonight, which are always some of my favorite things to read. We all have our own versions, don't we? Here are some of the most recent and best...
There are quite a few new people on my flist who probably don't know that I am in the habit of reading, squeeing over, and subsequently reccing the stories found at![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)

viva_gloria and tessabeth. The stories there are Pirates of the Caribbean/Neil Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, or, more specifically, Jack Sparrow/Jack Shaftoe. Yes, it's slash. Yes, it's superb in every way, a carnival of history, sea-faring fiction, and amazingly delicious smut.
Gloria and Tess are five chapters into a new multi-chapter fic called Bounty. It's Jack Sparrow backstory, the particular one conceived first bytessabeth in her first story at impofperversity, Picaresque. You don't need to read Picaresque, which is actually A/U to Bounty (though I HIGHLY recommend it), but it would be good to read Tess's Years of Their Acquaintance series, which relates Jack Sparrow's early days on the Black Pearl with Captain John Tobias, Tess's fabulous OMC (some of you might remember him from my own Dark of the Moon -- she lets me borrow Tobias occasionally). Fantastic stories, and Bounty is a dream come true for those of us who love the Impverse. The second chapter has the most wonderful pirate sea battle ever. Gloria and Tess are brilliant! Go! Read!
And there are two more Jack backstories I'd like to rec tonight:artaxastra's And All of Them Are True, which is short and heartbreakingly beautiful, and is told in a perfect Tia Dalma voice; and salr323's Diosa Del Mar, six chapters of fascinating Jack/Tia Dalma/Davy Jones as it's related to Elizabeth and Will after they journey to World's End -- a little darker, but oh, so satisfying!

As for the new fic, just got through reading the first chapter! So funny, and so full of clever wordage -- but that's the Impverse for you.
Thank you for spending so much time and talent delighting us and distracting us from RL. Your reward in Heaven will be great.
