Drabble: 'Flying'
Apr. 21st, 2009 05:56 pmA hundred words of CotBP Elizabeth for the current drabble challenge at
blackpearlsails
~ Flying ~
In hope and terror, she hitched her skirts and ran, dodging redcoats, she had to see. She caught a glimpse of Will and Jack as they raced up the steps. If they could gain the parapet…
She struggled through to her father's side and her heart froze. They were surrounded by a forest of weapons, and her father's outrage. And Norrington's.
"You forget your place, Turner."
"It's right here. Between you and Jack."
She stared at Will for a moment, at what he had become. For her.
A precipice yawned before her: death or the chance of life.
She flew.

Date: 2009-04-22 01:42 am (UTC)I love that double meaning, A precipice yawned before her: death or the chance of life.
She faced a stifling death by propriety the first time she stood at the precipice, and now has a second chance.
Wonderful look at that moment.
And wonderful how the story came full circle here.

Date: 2009-04-22 01:57 am (UTC)More than double, it was more like a stone thrown into a pond, and I think she knew the effects would be profound and far-reaching. But in the end, it was Will and Jack's lives at stake, and if she hadn't stepped forward I doubt if Swann or Norrington would have shown them much mercy.
I'm so glad you liked this. Thank you for commenting!
