Drabble: 'Unwise' (J/E implied - PG)
Nov. 9th, 2009 09:09 pm150 words for the 'Fall' prompt...
~ Unwise ~
There are other blokes in the next cell, so wearing the mask is a necessity. Lounging, hat tipped forward. Jack's all too familiar with lock-ups. He can be a patient man at need, but damnation he hates being detained, and for a chit of a girl at that.
Chit of a girl.
Who d'you think you're fooling, mate?
The governor's daughter, he’d known that going in, those lobsters having said as much, but there hadn't been time for more. When he'd seen her there on the seabed, the thought had flashed, Beauty's self she is… and then, waking... protesting… defending! Lord, how he'd enjoyed the feel of her, slender and quivering with rage at his effrontery in chaining her.
Jack shifts, easing himself a trifle, and frowns.
It won't do.
Unless Lady Luck conspires in his favor.
Stranger things have happened.
And Jack can be a patient man, at need.

Date: 2009-11-10 08:59 am (UTC)The thought of the guards as lobsters had me chuckling, I must admit.

Beautiful! :)

Thank you for reading and commenting! I'm glad Jack seemed in character here.

I suspect Jack was both drawn to Lizzie from the start, and saw her for what she was

So glad you enjoyed! Thank you for commenting!!

Oh, yes, the effect he and Lizzie had on one another was immediate, and pronounced, wasn't it? And even the mere memory of it has the power to ...er... move him. ;-)
Totally loved this! Glad to see Jack's POV on that fateful first meeting!
And Jack can be a patient man, at need.
Well, with Elizabeth, he's sure going to need that patience (and how)! Little does he know what's in store for him ... ;-)
Utterly delightful drabble (and-a-half)! A perfectly wonderful callback to the jail cell scene! Your depiction of Jack here is just so spot-on, with his practised mask of nonchalance, but the brain never idle! This one had me grinning from ear to ear! :-)

"Stranger things have happened." Love how his voice is in my head becos of this charming story. I so love how gentle he can be when he's getting wound up! And I absolutely adore his face when he turns, grins and turns away. A patient man...would totally be a stranger thing...so enjoyable.

Date: 2009-11-11 03:39 am (UTC)Wonderful rendition of one of my favorite images from CotBP - Jack and that sinful smirk, the tipped hat, the gleam of his gold.
*sigh*
Loved this, loved that last line ♥

I'm so happy you enjoyed this. Thank you so much for reading, and for the wonderful comments!

This is excellent! Dear, I love his train of thought - the wording as accurate and spot-on as always. Paints a wonderful picture. I can just see him smirk that devilish, wolf-like smirk of his - waiting, giving the fate time to unfold.
Love. *shakes head* that's all I can say: love. this piece. *favourites*
