My dear friend djarum99 drew my attention to this one yesterday. The original (from which this is cropped and tweaked) was posted yesterday by Jerry Bruckheimer on Twitter...




Profuse apologies for the lack of replies to your comments yesterday -- I can't get LJ at work, and after an iced venti cafe mocha at 1 PM I was so full of energy that I came home and hung pictures until 7:30, after which there was swimming, delicious dinner by gingersnapps, and AWE!

My girlfriend just told the movie based on this book called On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers (1988) with the main pirate character called Jack Shandy replaced by Jack Sparrow. She said if they follow the main storyline it should be an excellent movie, she loves the book.

Yes, the original shot is almost a silhouette, with much more blue sea, too, but I wanted to see the details of his costume so I tweaked it in Photoshop. Yay for CJS, indeed!

I don't think they'll follow the storyline of the book, which I'm currently reading. Jack Sparrow vaguely resembles another character in the book, and there are some great descriptions of the journey to the Fountain of Youth, but otherwise I bet they're mostly just using the title. There's a lot of fairly gruesome voodoo stuff, too, zombies and the like, and I hope PotC4 doesn't get its tone from the book, which is quite dark.

There are other pictures of Jack from P4 filming that feature light-colored dreads, and I played with this picture in PS myself, so I think there's a plot point there :-) I don't know if I can stand the wait until summer of 2011!
