It is really beautiful this time of year in Southern California, and it is exceptionally so this year. The hills are turning greener by the day with all the rain we've been having. The deciduous trees are turning the most brilliant colors, due to recent cold (40's & 50's) nights. The silk floss trees, which I believe are an Australian import, are blooming bright pink flowers. The greenery is, at present, beautifully rain-washed, and looks to staying that way: there is rain predicted for tonight.

Gotta have clouds for rain, of course, which make for lovely sunsets. [livejournal.com profile] oiseaurobyn took this shot from her office window this afternoon. One of the many reasons to love California.

Oh, you make me miss California. It is beautiful here, but it is always completely overcast, and our highs have been in the 40s and 50s. I just looked it up and the highest it has been in the past week is 55, more normal highs being around 50. Well, there are other advantages to the weather here too I suppose.

That's so beautiful.. as I sit here in the 35 degree weather. I really long to be on the warmth of the beach.

That is quite an exquisite photo. It made me realize that today I was racing to school as the sun set (driving in the opposite direction) and didn't give a moment of thought to it. Must make an attempt to pay more attention to the scenery... take it slower. Thank you.

Sounds a little dreary there, but maybe it's just the time of year. You are so, so fortunate, though, to have the chance to really get to know another country.

35 degrees! Good lord. It rarely gets that cold here, thank goodness. Glad you liked the pic.

I'm with you on that. I have a beautiful office, myself--a corner one, with huge windoows on two sides that look out to a campus that looks similar to a park. But the view doesn't compare with that one.

sadly, they're kicking us out of this particular building to make room for the "robert paine scripps conference center for something, something, and something, aka. the scripps seaside forum" (yes, that really is its full name, except those somethings have actual words). we get to move "up the hill" to a 1920s-era cottage with a better view, but not quite as easy beach access.

Makes me homesick - for the midwest! Seriously, it looks like the sunset over Lake Michigan. Enjoy your lovely weather and even lovelier scenery.

I suppose I can sort of relate - I was at university in Oxford, and after a time I stopped finding it amazing that I was going to dinner in the hall that Charles I used as his parliament during the Civil War, and that I walked across stunningly beautiful quadrangles every day. It's a shame, really, isn't it?
