MY speculation is it's in Jack's hallucination, where he's talking to the versions of himself, that this would be what he was had he gone on to serve on the Dutchman as summoned.
Now not to bitch yet again about the Twins ... but it sort of sounds like what was done in "Secret Window" (and I know, David Koepp wasn't exactly breaking new ground either, but it was JOHNNY again) when Rainey has to confront Shooter near the end.
Johnny loves that kind of thing. The crazier he gets to act, the more fun it is for him, I think.
Secret Window is not one of my favorites of his, although it does have some fun moments. Sadly, the device was pretty obvious, and not new there either. "Brad Pitt IS Ed Norton! GASP!"
Well, I'd like to see Liz come back myself at least, but I'd be kind of be surprised if either Orli or Keira signed up for a number four, and I don't know that they'd only hire one of 'em. On the other hand, we know Johnny's all for it as long as they give him a script to get behind...I think he loves Jack as much as we do. So maybe you'll get your wish.
Oh, I don't WANT a fourth movie. You know my feelings about the sequels (though I admit I've gotten a lot of good Will wallpapers out of them). I'm just saying Jack should be like James Bond or Batman, who have a few supporting characters in each movie, but everything else changes each time.
I would guess that at least part of what we're seeing with Jack is underworld/locker/hallucinations. There's got to be some of that -- it's the way any kind of underworld journey has to go, and having some of that near the beginning of the movie makes sense, given that they have to somehow get Jack in the first 20 minutes of the movie and still have people searching for him.
Anybody remember the trailer for The Empire Strikes Back, when the shot of Dream!Vader's head from the confrontation of Dagobah rolled off, and we saw Luke's face under the mask? OMG LUKE TURNED TO THE DARK SIDE AND DIED OMG!
I'm not going to stress at all about the shot of fishy!Jack. The third movie can't end with Jack lost again -- that's just repeating themselves, and T&T are better writers than that.

I don't think they'd end it with him lost, but there is that very undesirable leaked ending from the script that I am hoping with all my piratey heart has been revised considerably.
But if the trailer is any indication, it's going to be a heck of a ride!!

Indeed. And yet, he looks GREAT in the trailer, far more the Jack from CotBP, or actually even more wonderful. If the trailer is any indication of the quality of the finished movie, I think it'll be fantastically good.
Okay, these comments have me a bit worried. Fishy Jack? No! And what's the other ending that has you worried? I haven't watched the Russian trailer -- I'm waiting for the English one. It's only 24 hours away.

There's a frame of Jack looking like a FD crewman, but they won't let him end up that way. The leaked ending we're worried about just may come to pass, so if you want to be potentially completely spoiled, let me know, otherwise just don't worry about it. We'll find out in May for sure what happens. :)
