For the 'Rattle' drabble challenge at Black Pearl Sails, and for the 'Settling Debts' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] potc_dogwatch. 100 words, without the title. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for the quick beta read!

~ Her Pets ~

There was a breeze in the locker. The sand blew along the ground, tiny drifts forming and unforming. Not that he could feel either sand or breeze, or the glaring sun’s heat. No scent of anything at all, either, good or bad. There was light, of course, illuminating sun and sand. No hope of stars. No bosom of blue ocean.

Sand was his bed, and he stilled, closing his eyes against the sameness. Despair whispered, seductive. But he couldn’t focus. There was an odd rattling, cracking, click clacking. Bones, he thought.

He opened one eye. Not bones. Crabs.

“That’s interesting.”

Poor Jack!

Thirty days... Apologies, but am too worried to locate inspiration.

Thank you! I'm very glad you thought it good -- I haven't written in a while and I always think I'm losing it, but it seems to come back, fortunately. I think it'll be easier for all of us to write potc after the movie makes its debut -- at least I hope so.

I'm going to join with [livejournal.com profile] hendercats in loving that. And the way he thinks morbidly that the sound is that of bones. Poor Jack.

I think the spoiler crabs are kinda cute in a weird way, but damned if these movies don't keep making me crave seafood...first with the Attack of the Giant Calamari, now with the crabs...I think a visit to Red Lobster is in order.

Oooh, Red Lobster! Haven't been there in years. Sounds good to me!

Yes, I wonder if they're actually going to use them? It'll be fun to see.

Very happy you enjoyed the drabble! Thanks for letting me know.

Despair whispered, seductive.

Very apt. Nicely poetic. Thanks for sharing.
