Haven't been to Banff since I was a teen, but it's one of nature's masterpieces.

Elk Crossing in Banff Nat'l Park

This is the actual turnoff from Banff to the #1 highway to Calgary. Great picture isn't it? They had to build the animals their own crossing, especially the elk, because that was where the natural crossing was and after the highway was built there were far too many accidents. I understand it didn't take the animals long to learn that this was "their road."

Amazing! I would probably be gaping so at the elk that I'd drive right into the bridge pylon.

It is a great picture indeed.
I love how calm the elk are with the huge truck going right by them.
Thanks.

What a great picture! Thanks for posting it. I'll never forget seeing my first elk on the ranch - my goodness, they are huge animals! And the males' antlers are just enormous!

I wish they'd do crossings like that in the US - it would save a lot of animals' lives.

I wonder what Albertans think of the Mexican-crossing signs on I-5.
