(But ... I have to wonder. Does Will exist? One wonders why they bothered to put him in the last two movies if they didn't want him in any of their promotional items or permanent decor at the parks ...)
There is something about the map that I just love, from the first time I saw it on the web promotional. Gotta figure out a way to get one of those without have to sell the family jewels to get it.
You're always so good about keeping us posted on the latest Disney mania. Hope you and gingersnap had a beignet on me!
We didn't go to Disneyland -- well, SHE did, she had to work, and in Disneyana, where these may be on display (they weren't yet on Friday.
Beignets.... *drools* No, went to French festival today and drank Kir Royale and stumbled around listening to Edith Piaf impersonators and eating choucroute and chocolate mousse, and practicing our fake French accents. Sooo much fun.
Will reply to your email later, and edit 11 tomorrow.
I love the map too. It's over a thousand dollars, though, 'cause they only made 50 of them. I want to go see it in person, but will probably have to wait until Sept. Or late August, anyway.
I knew they'd be getting beautiful new art in after AWE came out. Yes, my Jack one is quite quite gorgeous -- although the Will one (see above) is a worthy mate to it. *G*
I echo what geek_mama_2 said - TOTALLY worth seeing in the theatre. It's fantastically made, the effects are the best yet, and just a non-stop ride. Even if you don't care for the plot elements (which I imagine must be the case if you haven't seen it yet) there's plenty of other reasons to squee about the film. :-)
These are so awesome! Where in Disneyland did they put them? Is Disneyana that gallery up above Pirates? I know that's where they put a bunch of props and artwork from DMC last year.
No, Disneyana is the store on Main Street on the right hand side as you are facing the castle, between the Main St. Cinema and the Market House. They have lots of wonderful art. The Gallery has lots of wonderful art, too, but *sob* they are CLOSING, after twenty years, at the end of this month.
So, so true. I've seen it seven times, and I don't even LIKE the ending. Great movie. As long as you don't think about it too deeply. Because then it's... problematic.
Hey. Whenever you want. OK? I have to stay home until they deliver the new Harry Potter book for Ginger. We could sneak a look at the end....
Or actually not, as she wants to open it herself.
You can't tell I've been drinking way too much this evening? Ginger made a fantastic dinner, with wines recommended by Alistair at Club 33 (he's Irish, and has a cute accent. And KNOWS his wines.).
I've seen it seven times, and I don't even LIKE the ending.
I've seen it five times, and plan on more, and I HATE the ending. LOL! But, like you, I just try not to think about it too deeply. It's way too much fun to ruin with overanalysis.
Did you ever get back to El Cap to see it before it left? I still wish we'd been able to do that...
I did NOT get back there, and would have loved to. But it's still playing at our local theater, and I will likely go see it at least once more this week. Eight is a good number, too. Or nine, if you feel like going next weekend. :))
Oooh... I don't want to look at the end of the last Harry Potter. A co-worker gave me the audiobooks for my road trip, and I, who had never read one of the books all the way through and has only the vaguest recollection of one of the movies (I don't even remember WHICH one) fell completely in love. I made it through the first four books while traveling (that's a LOT of hours of audiobook!) and can't wait to listen to the next two and then read the final book. So, don't spoil me! :-D
Saturday, I'm presuming? :-) I'll see you sometime in the afternoon! Have a great night!
I love all of these... especially the one of the whirlpool and the one of the Empress. *has a brief moment of pouting over the lack of Norrington art, but gets over it* Thank you for sharing!
Noooo! The Gallery is CLOSING? What are they going to put up there? It's such a neat little place to look around. Maybe it's going to be just for cast members? -- Last time I was there, there was a lady up there on the balcony singing, and also, it was where Jack Sparrow came out from behind the scenes. Oh, man, this sucks!
I'm pretty sure I posted the one of Will in one of those enormous picspams I did earlier in the year, though I haven't gone back to check. Glad you enjoyed seeing these!
Yes -- there are castmembers who've worked there for years and years, and they are not happy. Haven't heard what they're doing with the space, but it is closing at the end of the month.
Oooooh, map! Map map map! Have loved the map since you first started using that icon (how far in advance of AWE's release date?), and it may just be what I liked best in the movie. But at (eeep!) $1200, it certainly won't be on my wall.
The shot they picked of Barbossa, Lizzie and Jack is marvelous! Thanks for posting the pretties!

Had to have an icon of that as soon as I saw it. The map they used in the film was on display at the El Capitan, and it was very cool but I think the artist's rendering above is both larger and more detailed. But yeah, $1200. That's a lot of money.

I got "Bring Me That Horizon: the making of Pirates of the Caribbean" off Amazon -- it arrived just today -- and there is a behind the scenes pic of that scene with Barbossa, Elizabeth and Jack with the costume/make-up people tweaking each of them. What a huge amount of work goes into these things.
I really really wish it appealed to me, even just a little bit! I even started out to the theater, while it was playing around here, but I just felt worse the more I drove, I was going because I "had to" - like a chore I'd be happy to get over with. That was so silly, I just turned around and went home. I love PotC so much, I don't ever want to feel that way about it! (I hope this made some sense) But I do thank you for the recommendation, and I'm glad you liked it :)
There is one of Lizzie. The photo they used is circa CotBP. I've seen it at the Art of Disney in Orlando.
The store has a couple of other great paintings that I have been eyeing. The first is the Black Pearl on the moonlit sea, but the shadow it casts in the water is a skull - wicked cool. The other looks to be based on the Norrigton/Will swordfight on Isla Cruces except they are battling on a gorge with the Black Pearl in the distance.

They're all beautiful. Why couldn't they have had anything gorgeous like that when I was there??? :-p
But your Jack one is still the best.

I might actually buy one of Elizabeth. :-) Though it'd be a tough call between her and Jack.
BTW, I just got back to CA today. Toby grew up even more while I was gone! LOL Two more weeks and then it's Nashville for me...
