Here I am, bouncing over the excellence, when just last night I was depressed as all get out. Just goes to show you what a little great pirate!fic can do. I've been meaning to post some recs for a while, and now's the time. All the piratey folk on my flist may have read these, but my RL friends have not, and each is well worth savoring.

[livejournal.com profile] the_dala has been amazing me with the excellence of her writing since I first discovered the fandom on LJ back in early '04, and she continues to do so with her most recent offerings. Terms of Settlement is NC-17, W/E, J/W, and J/E, funny, hot, and sweet -- exactly what I love! It's like she knew or something! She's also given us more post-AWE Shipwreck Cove goodness, this time of the angsty sort (but gorgeous and not to be missed), Where Soul Meets Body, W/E, PG.

[livejournal.com profile] penknife is next, another amazing writer who consistently hits 'em outta the park. There is a Chest is J/W/E, PG-13; Dive is J/E, PG; and her Shipwreck series is some of the best Sparrington I've read in a long time (and they're just snarking at this point). Alligators is the most recent installment, and there are indeed alligators, as well as links to the previous chapters.

Go directly to [livejournal.com profile] woolymonkey's A Reader's Guide to Truths and Lies, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just read read read every one of them in order, and then you will have to go back and read them all again, because of all the "Aha!" moments you'll run across in the course of these related stories that range from humor to mystery to drama and extreme angst, from PG-13 to NC-17, and excellent to [insert superlative here]. My personal favorite is Dear Jack (Lies 1), which is a letter that Bootstrap Bill dictates to his appointed scribe, Greenbeard of the Flying Dutchman (pre-DMC) -- Greenbeard's asides are so funny, and Bill's (and Jack's) story is so heartbreaking.

After you gobble up the Truth's and Lies series, do not fail to savor the First, Second, and Third Nuts Out of the Locker, in which [livejournal.com profile] woolymonkey surpasses herself. Perfect Jack. Perfect Barbossa. Perfectly hilarious.

The Ferryman's Bride is the latest chapter of [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra's wonderful Outlaws and Inlaws series, and if you haven't read it, hie thee hence, forthwith!! The series is J/E, W/E, heading toward J/W/E (I think) and ranges in rating from PG to NC-17 (though there's never anything gratuitous about the latter).

[livejournal.com profile] salr323's The Fall of a Sparrow is nine beautifully written chapters of post-AWE angst and magic.

[livejournal.com profile] djarum99 is one of the most prolific writers in the fandom, and has written lots of plotty, smutty, poetic J/E fic in less than a year! Amazing! Here is her Complete Fic Index.

And finally, [livejournal.com profile] hereswith's latest Firefly fic, Something Precious is h/c at its finest. Mal/River, PG-13. Great, and I'd say that even if I hadn't beta read it. *G*

Gah!! It's 11 o'clock! No time to write, again. Well, tomorrow eh? Good night, my friends.

And that's very cool that you found them first through a link of mine. I always wonder if these recs pages are useful (as they don't generate a lot of comments), so that's very nice to know!
