When I opened my account here, someone else had taken the name geekmama. I checked and that account's been deleted and purged, but DW still won't let me have the name.
When you say they won't let your have it, how did that work? Did you open a support ticket? Because the staff here is very responsive; if you get talking to a real human I bet it can be worked out. Worth a shot anyway.
It is sad about LJ; I can't find another word for it. Because it's home, and my friends are there, and I don't want to leave. On the other hand, I'm angry, and well aware that a 21st century corporation isn't likely to be swayed by ethics (or in this case, what looks like logic), or probably even by large numbers of unhappy customers threatening to leave their services. I guess there's lots more where we came from.
I've deleted my Facebook account, or at least I'm trying - that's apparently not an easy thing to do. And for now, crossposting.
I haven't been getting on LJ as much of late myself, and now I don't really feel safe posting anything personal there, or anything fannish, for that matter. Which leaves... what?
In other news, you just always have the best icons.
I'm modding some comms, last_writes, a community for fans of past vampire shows, books and movies, and wc_text_over_subtext a shipping free zone for White Collar fans.
Here's a widget you can use to find Dreamwidth users who have the same username as people on your LJ friendslist.
Thanks for the widget, I'll try it out. I couldn't get geekmama here, even though I signed up for an account quite a while ago, but whoever had it before has purged and deleted, so maybe it'll be available again, one of these days. Or maybe I'll be able to change my account name to it. Or something.
I don't know if there are any good comms, I haven't been using this account much. But I loved LJ because I could control who saw my personal posts, and now I'm not so sure that's true, what with the Facebook ticky boxes.
Yeah, I'm not thrilled with the privacy invasion, either. Although I don't think it allows just anyone to see your locked posts. It will link to it, but unless the person is on your flist, they can't see your actual post. That's the way I understand it anyway. There is a post here that helped me understand it a little better. (now I just hope the html works the same here as it does at LJ)
