Aaaaaand another one! 150 words set at Shipwreck Cove, for both the 'Fool' theme and the 'Childhood' theme at
potc100, with thanks, again, to
hereswith for the quick beta.
~ Fooled ~
“Fooled you, Mum!” exclaimed Jamie, high-pitched and giggling as he popped out from the cupboard where he’d apparently been hiding the whole time the Cove had been in an uproar trying to find him.
Jack glanced over at the others. Teague’s mouth twisted in a grimace, more amused than angry in his relief. The same could not be said, however, for Elizabeth.
Quick action was called for.
“Here, you vile brat, come with me,” Jack said, grabbing Jamie’s arm and pulling him with some urgency toward the door.
“But Mum—“
“Your mum’s going to have a spot of rum with Captain Teague.” Teague gave a nod, eyes laughing. Elizabeth said nothing – didn’t have to, with that look on her face. Jack said, pointedly, “Four’s old enough for some sharp talk, but a bit young for the cat o’ nine tails. Best make ourselves scarce for this little parlay, savvy?”

ETA: And here's the sequel, Dear Fool.

Although really, he needs to learn that you do NOT give Mom a heart attack like that. There's a lot to this little drabble because it contrasts the security Jamie feels in Shipwreck Cove, among pirates, to the worries Elizabeth would rightly have...he's a powerful bit of leverage for anyone trying to get at the King and the heart of the Dutchman's Captain. But the fact that he doesn't know it means Jack and Elizabeth (and Teague) are doing a good job.

I love this :) It is exactly how I would imagine the upbringing of Will III, taking a village. And his Uncle Jackie to spare him the rod, of course!(knowing full well the taste of Mum's wrath hisself...) Brilliant stuff.

I think so, too, a strange and yet lucky sort of childhood. And Uncle Jackie certainly knows what Elizabeth's capable of -- and how to get around her, too.
Thank you for reading and commenting!

Jack, Jamie...like father like son, right? :)
Such a sweet scene, dear. And it's just so perfectly in-character for the lot of em! But what am I talkin bout - it's you, geekmama - that basically says it all...
;)

What I want to read is Will having to mete out a punishment. Imagine having to be the Bad Guy (even if it's just once) AND never be around.

That would be awfully hard on everyone concerned. :(
It's never easy being a parent. I may write a follow-up to this drabble.
The problem with little kids is they're all different. Some of them are more sensitive and verbal correction is enough. Others... not so much.
