Drabble: 'Different Colors' (Teague, Elizabeth)

A double drabble for the 'Flag' theme...



~ Different Colors ~


In all these months there'd only been the one rumor: Jack had lost the Pearl to Barbossa. Again.

It'd put Teague in a vile temper for a day or two, but after that he'd been able to shrug it off. He'd lived too long, seen too much to worry, and Jackie was nigh on forty years old, for pity's sake.

But all that vexation returned with a rush one bright morning, some eight months after the Battle.

Elizabeth joined him on the balcony. "What is it?" she asked, concern in her voice. No doubt she'd noted his scowl.

"The Pearl's coming through the Devil's Throat." Teague ground his teeth. If that was Barbossa…

"Let me see!" Elizabeth grabbed the glass from his hand.

Teague bridled and turned to snap at her, but the expression on her face as she set it to her eye stopped him. She was wound tight as he was himself. But then she gave a little gasp, and a grin broke out, wide and beautiful, as she turned to him.

"It's Jack!"

Teague gaped for half a second, then demanded, "How d'ye know?"

She laughed, delighted, and handed him the glass. "The flag. It's his own."

This is wonderful! I love how Teague wasgoing to snap at her for snatching his glass away, 'til he saw her face. I can just picture Teague and Elizabeth bickering...hehe. Just how did he get the Pearl back, I wonder. ;)

Getting the Pearl back -- there should be a contest for that, too (like the one I suggested above, about designing a flag for Will). It's a subject most of us are interested in!

Loved it! Your Teague is great - sullen old goat - but I can't help but love him. I wonder just how often those two fight, they both have strong personalities, and something tells me neither is willing to back down. Poor Jack, no one trusts him to get his pretty boat back.

However, as cool as Jack's flag is, I still a bit miffed that they gave Calico Jack Rackham's flag to Barbs and not him. It would have been so fitting.

I agree. I always thought of the Skull and Crossed Swords as Jack's, but I suppose it might have become too closely associated with Barbossa and the cursed pirates during that ten years.

I hadn't run across any fic featuring the new flag (though I may have just missed whatever was out there), and I felt it was worthy of a drabble, at least. So glad you enjoyed it. :)
