Here's a hundred words for the "Sign" drabble challenge at
blackpearlsails, unbetaed, and hopefully not too cryptic. PG-13 for language, and inspired by Father's Day. :)
~ An Inflamation of the Lungs ~
Elizabeth was just about to blow out the candle when she heard the familiar sound of approaching boots. She sat up in bed as Jack came in, looking grim. "Is your father all right?" she exclaimed.
Jack shut the door. "Bastard threw a bowl of gruel at me! Look at this!"
There was indeed a large damp patch adorning the front of Jack's waistcoat and breeches. Elizabeth stifled a giggle. "But... but that's a good sign, isn't it?"
"That's what Rosie said, when she could stop laughing." Jack gave Elizabeth a brief but pointed glare as he began to strip.

I've been told getting old isn't for whimps -- and being sick and old would be highly annoying to someone who'd led a really active life.
I'm so happy you liked this. Poor Jack, indeed. He suffers all too often for being a good man.

First I was working on another drabble to go into the backstory, but then I was running out of time, so I did it that way and it seemed to work! Glad you liked that last line, too. I'm sure Elizabeth can smooth his ruffled feathers. ;)
I love that icon, btw. Jack's expressions were priceless in that scene.
