Written for all who love Will/Elizabeth, but particularly for my fellow captain, [livejournal.com profile] kahva, who needed cheering up. 250 words, using Black Pearl Library's last three drabble themes: 'silver', 'land', and 'sea'. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for editing.

~ That One Day ~

She barely needed the oars, it turned out, through some magic of Calypso's, or even his own. She didn't ask him. She had wondered, back on the Pearl, what he would be like now, and had both dreaded the answer, and longed for it with all her heart.

Her answer waded barefoot to meet her boat, handing her out with such joy writ on his face that she could not be afraid, even when he enfolded her and she sensed the ways he was different, and the ways in which he was blessedly the same.

"Elizabeth!" he murmured, and tears sprang to her eyes at the sound of his beloved voice. Longing, and a sudden fury took her, an inner railing at fate, a rejection of the death and destruction of the morning. She clung to him, her friend, her lover, and her lips were upon his, warm on warm, the feel and taste of him igniting a flame within her.

He'd laid a blanket for her and drew her there, a marriage bed of white wool, soft sand, and sunshine, tucked into the arms of a rocky outcrop. No prying eyes saw what they alone would remember, and remember, and remember. No other ears heard the sighs, sweet words, and sharp cries of their rising tide. All were drowned in the murmur of waves, carried off by the fresh sea breeze, and their lives were caught fast, between land and sea, between silver and gold, on that One Day.

Oh, this was beautiful.

I'd say more but I think that'd cheapen it. Have some cake instead. *gives you cake*

I have a fleet of 'ships', so I loved it.

Of course Will was warm, he was magical, not dead.

And I was doing jolly well at keeping those tears in a big pressurized wad in my throat, choking 'em back, barely breathing and then....
"what they alone would remember, and remember, and remember."
Many thanks, you heart-wrenching, gut-twisting, Queen of Gotcha, your Imperial Goodness, Miz Geekmama'.

Lovely. A beautiful, poignant moment caught to perfection.

I may be alone, but I found the that scene in AWE to be incredibly romantic, bittersweet, heartbreaking yet hopeful. Not at all like what others saw.

Oh, beautiful. I love the scene on the beach in AWE and it's great to get some W/E from you =) I was going to tell you some of my favourite parts, but ended up going "The first paragraph...oh, and the second paragraph...and..." so I'll just say the whole thing is fantastic!

No, I thought that as well - I certainly didn't see it as a goodbye in prelude to going off to another man, or as an exercise in female misery and oppression. :-)

Not bad. Willabeth's not my thing, but it's a snippet of loveliness and seems to capture the last good bit before devastation sets in for a while for both of them - until they can each rouse themselves and get going with their new duties of life toward that 10-year mark.

I've always had a fleet of 'ships' myself, although mostly it's Jack/AlmostAnyoneOrAnything, lol! But W/E has its own appeal. I'm glad you liked this.

I don't wish to interrupt, however, thank you so very much for the comment you made "the bitter underlaying the sweet"--ohmyword!! You did it! Words are freedom for me--like Las Vegas slot machines, they roll around and then they pair in ephiany, feelings with the words. Now I know why "happy tears". I'm rich!!

This is truly lovely.

The use of contrasts was very effective ... dread and longing, him being different and yet still the same, her inner turmoil of emotions.

"remember, and remember, and remember" - beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

That was a lovely, lovely piece - lots of emotion in so few words.

Her answer waded barefoot to meet her boat, handing her out with such joy writ on his face that she could not be afraid, even when he enfolded her and she sensed the ways he was different, and the ways in which he was blessedly the same.

I liked this line especially - I'd (oddly) never thought that Elizabeth might have worried about how Will had changed.
