Drabble: 'Utterly Deceptive Twaddlespeak'

~ Utterly Deceptive Twaddlespeak ~

Smoking pistol in one hand and chain-shot gripped in the other, the round ends hanging obscenely between his spread legs, Barbossa was an impressive figure atop that table. The report had been deafening in the crowded room, effectively affecting a halt in the current instance of Pirate Politics. Hector was quite the showman. But what the devil was he blathering on about now?

"It was the first court what imprisoned Calypso, and we will be the ones to set her free, and in her gratitude she will see fit to grant us boons!"

Calypso? No bloody guarantees there. Jack had other plans, in any case.

"Whose boons? Your boons?" Jack demanded, with a purposely incredulous leer.

He'd show old Hector what real boons was like.

Well, it does take some serious boons to be able to behave like Jack did at the Court. Otherwise he'd gotten shot too. Not to mention the cajones it took to do all that :P

I must agree. It makes me laugh (with a bit of eye-rolling) every time I see it. The Brethren Court scenes are probably my favorite bits of AWE. There's just so much there.

I think Hector, lacking though he does Jack's intuitive understanding of the female creature, knows he's playing with fire freeing Calypso. If he thought he had any choice, he'd not take the risk. But he's desperate.

If I'm right, he knows he's talking twaddlespeak - which may be one reason why he's waving those boons around.

The Brethren Court scene is my favorite in that whole film, I think. So many great characters, so much happening. I'm very glad you liked this -- thanks for letting me know!
