According to the website, today is the official Talk Like A Pirate Day. Also per the website, this has been going on since the mid-nineties, and the inimitable Dave Barry had a hand in promoting it through his weekly column.

In honor of the occasion, and to reply to this week's Pirate Talk Drabble Challenge at Black Pearl Sails, I offer the following...

Avast?

The insufferable Gillette and his little crew were well away from the ship when Jack turned, striding back across the deck.

“Was ‘avast’ not the right word, then?” Turner said, following.

Grimacing at both the defensive tone and the reminder, Jack said acidly, “Aye, but we’d already got their attention, hadn’t we? Made us look like bloody fools!”

“We are bloody fools, thinking we can succeed in this,” came the muttered retort.

Jack snapped, “Maybe, Mr. Turner, but we’re in it up to our eyeballs now, ain’t we? So scupper it an’ get below: we’ve a rudder chain to disable.” ~~

In other exciting news, I had a marvelous day yesterday, beginning with a round of golf with [livejournal.com profile] shockwavesix at the local pitch and putt course. Neither of us had played in far too long, but didn't do too badly for all that. I got par on one hole and at least one bogie, and he did somewhat better. It was great getting out there among the greenery and slamming a few with my beautiful set of clubs (although the trim on them is teal and pink: so early 90's). My golf shoes actually fell apart on the course, from having been stored unused for so long I assume. Must get some new ones, as we plan to attempt to play again soon.

In the evening I had the opportunity to meet [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter, who is every bit as delightful as her writing (both personal and piratey) led me to believe. Hope to see more of her in the future. I owe her a drink (and much more than that actually, as her brilliant writing has given me so much enjoyment). She says she is going to finish Jjail, by the way, has the plot all done, just has to write it, when she can spare time from her (understandably) more pressing project, The Screenplay. We live in hope.

Ahoy

Glad you enjoyed the drabble!

Yes, it was great meeting KJ. We were wishing all our piratey friends could get together. What a party that would be, eh?

Is there any chance of you making it out to LA for a pirate gathering in December or January? If it is possible, let me know what works best for you so we can take that into account when planing. That way, you would get to meet KJ and we could sit on the beach drinking rum all night. cause, you know, I'd really like to meet you in person too.

Great! You should join the new [livejournal.com profile] cali_pirates community--they'll be posting info on gatherings there.

I was coming here to tell you about the [livejournal.com profile] cali_pirates community but I see geek mamma beat me to it. I hope it works out to meet you. and Taxes was one of the first fics that hooked me into this fandom back on the yahho group. It would be great to finally meet you.

BTW hope you don't mind if I friend you, cause I'm gonna, now that I know you have a livejournal.

I love the drabble. A perfect lost scene.

Isn't KJ great? I hope I get a chance to see her on her way back up today. We really need to get cracking on our plans for the Pirate gathering.

Glad you had a great weekend.

Thanks! Glad you liked the drabble.

I hope you get to see her too--I know she was planning on it. She woke up with a sore throat this morning, so be nice to her and give her juice or hot tea or something. That's a long drive (back to SLO) when you're not feeling well.

Oh, what a great gap-filling drabble that is! Right in character for both of them.

Happy TLAP Day!

'Scupper it' indeed. Good choice for the occasion I say.

You know... I forgot about Talk Like A Pirate Day. I'm fairly certain it'd be easier to remember if'n I didn't talk like a pirate every day. It's becoming an affliction. A truly terrible curse perhaps.

As is writer's block- which is the reason I've taken the wasted time to start up a piratical journal(since if I used the usual, my friends and family would probably get so sick of pirates that they'd take up the practice and keelhaul me sorry self). Hope you don't mind my breezing in and calling you friend. If you do mind, just send me spinning by an oar to the head... gently, if at all possible :D

You FORGOT Talk Like A Pirate Day?? Well, I probably would have, too, except for being involved at Black Pearl Sails and Live Journal. Actually it was my non-piratical son-in-law who first reminded me.

Glad to hear from you, and very sorry to hear about the writer's block. A sad affliction, I know. I am still stricken with numerous plot bunnies and am working on two stories that are due TOMORROW for a ficathon (yikes!). I will at least finish the one by tomorrow morning. Hope the writer's block soon departs, allowing you to finish up "The Troubles" from Salty Tales.

Have a great weekend! I must go 'friend' you now.

I confess, dear lady, that the momentous occasion did, in fact, slip my mind. Was eclipsed, more like.

Many thanks- it is indeed a terrible fate of a writer's fingers to hesitate for too long a time.

Jack's idling, just waiting.

Sorry myself to read about all the bunnies- buggers are sometimes a bugger to catch when they're all a-hoppin. I admire your dedication to those ficathons and such.

Was not a half bad weekend so far. Hope yours is well enough as well.

Oh yes and it's very good to be friended :D
