The bird I.D. book is a great idea! And maybe I can take the blank journal and pen in addition to the five published books of my choice. One would have to consult the official Rules, I suppose.

A journal and pen and a sketchbook so that I could write and draw about the story of the life around me on the island.

It's that whole thinking out of the box thing, which I don't do. I thought it meant already published books, but yes, a blank journal would be a must.

Part of my analytical brain went, "OK, if you're packing, then it's more of a vacation then being stranded. So, I'd rest and just enjoy the natural setting of the island." LOL

Hee!

I think the blank journal or notebook would definitely be in addition to the five published works. We need to consult the Rules.

I see your three and add Robert Jordan's series - even if it's only to burn once it ticks me off - and the Sun Sword series by Michelle West.

I'll have to check those last two of yours out. They must be pretty excellent. ;)

Eh, Robert Jordan is different - people tend to either love or hate him, and most hate him. He's not great with women characters and he can write a 700 page book that covers two days. Seriously. I just want to re-read the whole series and being stuck on an island would make me do that.

Now Michelle West is amazing. Again, people either like or dislike her style of complicated writing, but her Sun Sword series is the best thing I've ever read.

I'm obviously coming late to this party since I only scanned down and bumped into it (I usually drop by so I don't know if I missed it during the period when my computer was semi-permanently in the shop).

I can't do it in five either, not if one of them has to be my unlined bound diary (to double as sketch pad and notebook).

But out of too many that I'd shed tears to leave behind:

1. The Wind in the Willows -Kenneth Graham
2. Watership Down -Richard Adams
3. The Folk of the Air -Peter S. Beagle
4. The King Must Die -Mary Renault
5. The Foreigner -C. J. Cherryh
