Drabble: 'The Best That Ever Sailed'

A hundred words for the 'batter' prompt from a couple of weeks ago at blackpearlsails.



~ The Best That Ever Sailed ~

Battered by Fate, marked by a thousand encounters with foe and friend alike. Worn by years of toil and painful longing. Yet still beautiful, still possessed of a gaiety, a courage that caught the wind with heady bravado and turned toward the sun with hope that would not be dashed.

“The best that ever sailed, Miss Elizabeth.” Gibbs paused for a moment at the top of the rise to look down on the Pearl, embraced by sapphire waters and lush banks in this unnamed inlet.

And Elizabeth, seeing her captain taking his ease on the distant quarterdeck, had to agree.

Oh man, how utterly lucious! Both the girls and himself, what a charming view of their lives.

"Yet still beautiful, still possessed of a gaiety, a courage that caught the wind" such a pretty pretty description of either, Pearl or Jack. They both have that strong base note, along with lots of fancy curliques, wow!

I believe that Gibbs & Elizabeth are speaking at cross purposes here. Gibbs, "looks down on the Pearl" and Elizabeth sees "her captain". Yet, happily, in the end, they have an accord as each view ends in the same truth. Thanks for letting us see such a lovely moment betwixt this beloved threesome.

PS: At heart I'm actually a Pearl-Sparrow shipper... ;)
Gibbs & Elizabeth may wish to make haste, and return to The Pearl and her captain, before nightfall, as she carries both hope and longing...

Thank you for the lovely comment! We're all Pearl-Sparrow shippers, to some extent, which was one thing that made the sequels unsatisfactory. Sometimes one just longs for the happier post-CotBP universe we enjoyed for three years.

I agree with everyone here, too, that Gibbs is an integral part of this circle. Robin Hood must have his Little John, Errol Flynn must have his Alan Hale.
