Drabble: 'Convergence' (J/E - PG13)
Jun. 6th, 2010 01:37 pmA 125 words in reply to last week's drabble challenge prompt, 'Doldrums'...
The Doldrums, also called the "equatorial calms", is a nautical term for the intertropical convergence zone.
~ Convergence ~
At noon, the sun’s hot enough to make the pitch bubble in the seams of the deck. No breath of wind, save that once, when the ship was tossed about like a cockle shell in the violence of a squall.
Yet Jack’s content as a cucumber. The Pearls man the sweeps at night, swim at dawn, and rest in the heat of the day. That squall provided a surfeit of fresh water, even enough for Lizzie to sponge herself clean and cool as evening comes on.
Jack watches her. She glints gold in the sunset light that streams through the gallery windows. The sight’s rich, satisfying, and almost compensation for having to rise and go to work, ending another dreamlike day of drowsy love.
Almost.

Date: 2010-06-13 04:59 pm (UTC)And seeing Elizabeth through Jack's eyes as she bathes ... as she "glints gold in the sunset light". Simply priceless!
Sheer magic you've woven here with your words! Utter perfection! :-)
