Drabble: 'Soap Bubble' (Jack/Harry - PG)
Jul. 10th, 2010 05:12 pmSaw this week's drabble challenge prompt and it appears I have Harry and the Pirate on the brain, which is as well if I'm going to write something longer (still plotting, btw). Here's a double drabble (200 words exactly) set after chapter four of Harry & the Pirate II: Swann's Revenge.
~ Soap Bubble ~
They’d stayed a whole month at St. Claire Island. The long days restored Jack (and such of his crew as had been similarly Afflicted) to the pink of health, as well as setting a seal on his relationship with Henrietta Fanshawe. Elizabeth’s aunt. Swann’s sister.
Jack’s lover.
Before he’d taken ill, he and Lady Fanshawe had spent many a warm afternoon exploring both her island and their mutual affinity for one another. After he'd succumbed, she’d cared for him with a patience and devotion that could only mean one thing.
The mistress of St. Claire had plenty to keep her busy while Jack and the Pearls were off chasing Spanish gold, so kisses and smiles had been the order of the day when he’d bid her farewell. But as she’d watched them, waving from the beach, the kindly sun betrayed the glint of tears. She’d be waiting. She’d be there to greet him with open arms when he returned.
He knew well the ephemeral quality of happiness, but as the Black Pearl sailed away from St. Claire Island and his darling Harry, Jack’s heart was aglow, and he found that he was hard-pressed to contain his bubbling delight.
