Drabble: 'Soap Bubble' (Jack/Harry - PG)
Jul. 10th, 2010 05:12 pmSaw this week's drabble challenge prompt and it appears I have Harry and the Pirate on the brain, which is as well if I'm going to write something longer (still plotting, btw). Here's a double drabble (200 words exactly) set after chapter four of Harry & the Pirate II: Swann's Revenge.
~ Soap Bubble ~
They’d stayed a whole month at St. Claire Island. The long days restored Jack (and such of his crew as had been similarly Afflicted) to the pink of health, as well as setting a seal on his relationship with Henrietta Fanshawe. Elizabeth’s aunt. Swann’s sister.
Jack’s lover.
Before he’d taken ill, he and Lady Fanshawe had spent many a warm afternoon exploring both her island and their mutual affinity for one another. After he'd succumbed, she’d cared for him with a patience and devotion that could only mean one thing.
The mistress of St. Claire had plenty to keep her busy while Jack and the Pearls were off chasing Spanish gold, so kisses and smiles had been the order of the day when he’d bid her farewell. But as she’d watched them, waving from the beach, the kindly sun betrayed the glint of tears. She’d be waiting. She’d be there to greet him with open arms when he returned.
He knew well the ephemeral quality of happiness, but as the Black Pearl sailed away from St. Claire Island and his darling Harry, Jack’s heart was aglow, and he found that he was hard-pressed to contain his bubbling delight.

Date: 2010-07-11 01:14 am (UTC)I'm betting on longer J/H fic on the horizon. Or is that hoping for? *G*

Date: 2010-07-11 02:00 am (UTC)Very true, though there were no long term plans, of course, at that point. Life in a soap bubble, as it were.
Longer fic on the horizon, I've had one plot simmering for a long time, and there will possibly be another to follow, if I can work it out.
Thank you very much for commenting!

Wonderful little snippets of paradise here. What fun to see Jack so astonished at his good fortune. To expect to return to something that doesn't involve slapping! LOL.

Date: 2010-07-11 03:53 am (UTC)And I've often imagined a story where Jack gets to assign the worstest duty on the Pearl to his current paramour, any pairing really--only couldn't ever discover what that would really be (crow's nest in inclement weather? tight cramped icky bilge? no shore leave?). Now I know--it would be nursing a sick Jack--Lord what a terror he would be, unless of course he was really really sicken. Many thanks for the "treat" hereafter referred to as truffles or deluxe truffles (of course of the chocolate variety) cos I really like chocolate. By now you probably caught on I like Harry just a smidge.

*Longer* Jack and Harry on the horizon? Yay!!!
Mostly unrelated, but interesting: watched Bringing Up Baby for the first time last night, and even though I've adored Katherine Hepburn for eons, was surprised and amazed at several points to see facial acting that I realized I'd seen on another face: Keira Knightley's.
