Reports are coming in that plans are in the works to film PotC 5 & 6 back to back in the not-too-distant future, and aletheiafelinea, captaintish, and ladywarringford all posted about this spoilery Behind-the-Scenes video...

And porridgebird posted one of these last night, reminding me that the folks at the depp_fans_over_30 Yahoo Group had three different pics from the Vanity Fair spread saved on their site...
















ETA: Looking about here, it seems that depp_daily posted those Vanity Fair pix a couple of days ago. I am really falling behind with everything since the birth of my little grandson, lol!

Thr words go with a quote he had chosen. If you go back to the last Oscar, emmy, whatever that he appeared there's a blip about what the quote is--kinda a funny statement of pride if I remember correctly. The sun looking thingy is the "new" one to my eye. He's incredible that he can sit still that long--sorry I'm just old enough that it screams trailer estates dweller to me. Just a fact of life for how I was reared.

He is photogenic under all circumstances, but I do love Annie Leibovitz's photos of Depp, she really has the knack of catching just the right elements to perfection.

Considering that his eyes are painted, maybe all this is supposed to be a sort of Jacky-photo-session? And these new tatoos are all piratey, as it seems, so maybe it's a some permanent makeup for Jack. Hmm, would it mean shirtless Jack in OST? ;)

That's what I was thinking too! He's still got the Jack-eyes, and I don't remember some of those tattoos - which, you are right, are piratey. So maybe he's still "in costume" to an extent.

He can stay in costume forever and that would be fine by me! He could start a trend. More men growing their hair long and wearing kohl and earrings and pirate garb. Oooh la la ♥

About that tattoo on his left arm - it's, if I remember correctly, a picture of his grandmother. That was the rumour, I'm not up to date, so it could be that it's confirmed now. He's got the matching one on his right arm. There's likely a thread at the Zone over it. *g* Found something here, you have to scroll down a bit.

So much to say, so in the spirit of the aspiring writer that I fancy myself as being, I'll sum it up: GGUUHHH!!!!!

Is it just me, or can you feel the chemistry between him and Cruz already? But then a sack of potatoes would look good alongside.

I'm not sure about the chemistry, am waiting to see the movie. Depends a lot on direction and the way the character is written, and you know how far I trust the writers, not to mention JB -- and JD himself, really, since he sees Captain Jack as a sort of Bugs Bunny/Pepe LePew character. And it's a tricky thing, chemistry. But nevertheless, counting the days with you! Even if they muff the romance, it looks like it'll have some really interesting elements. I'm looking forward to the bits in England, and the return of Teague, too.

And PotC5 & 6 already in the planning stages -- whoot!

I didn't see it but then they were both so wrapped up in 70 layers of clothes that it was kind of hard for me to tell. I did notice that Cruz looked very different. I'd never have recognized her. Johnny looks much better in this movie than in the Tourist, and it's so nice to see him opposite someone who is not Angelina Jolie.

LOL!!! Not sure what "70 layers of clothes" has to do with chemistry, but beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

I can't say I'm a great fan of Cruz's, but what I've seen I've liked. I remember being impressed with her in her "debut" with Nicholas Cage, and she was remarkable in "Blow" in which she most definitely responded to JD's screen presence.

I'll greatly concur with you on the Jolie thing. I've never been a fan of hers... fail to see the fascination, for that matter. By all appearances, it would seem JD put on a goodly amount of weight for that film and (as always) is a physical enough actor to actually look like the dumpy math professor he portrays.

As far as OST goes, I suspect we can all rest assured that between Disney and JD (not to mention #5 and 6 on the horizon), the "romantic" aspect will be left ambiguous enough to leave everyone involved with enough room to work in our fantasies, in whatever shape, form or fashion they might be.

I've only seen Blow once, but I remember being unimpressed with the Depp/Cruz chemistry. However, I can see it more in the little we've seen of PotC4, and I do have great hopes for the movie.

I suspect we can all rest assured that between Disney and JD (not to mention #5 and 6 on the horizon), the "romantic" aspect will be left ambiguous enough to leave everyone involved with enough room to work in our fantasies, in whatever shape, form or fashion they might be.

It's not ambiguity I worry about. That's fine. It's the whole tone of the relationships romantic and otherwise. I think the first trilogy went from what we saw as a celebration of friendship and romance -- flowering in spite of initial mistrust and difficult circumstances -- to something that reflected an underlying cynicism about relationships, romantic and otherwise, a cynicism that seemed unresolved by the end of the third movie. But I doubt if TPTB see that as a problem since they made so much money on the second two movies. The trouble is, I don't think they would have if it hadn't been for that first movie, with its better balance of edginess and hope.

Considering the metal skull on the advance poster has very noticeable blond locks, it has to work into the plot somehow, I'd think. (Also - the metal part? I still think he's a prototype Terminator, meh. LOL)

Could the lighter dreads simply be that Jack has started to go gray and is feeling his age a bit, hence his renewed interest in finding the Fountain of Youth? I know we all like to think of Jack as eternally young, but the fact is that Jack, though not exactly ancient (like Barbossa *grin*), is not a young man, particularly by the standards of the 18th century. I also get the sense (telling from Barbossa's new duds and pegleg, and that Jack has had the time to amass several new scars and tattoos) that a number of years have passed between AWE and OST.

If that's the case, and since there appears to be a planned 5th and 6th film in the works (not to be too spoilery, since I really have no inside info on where TPTB are heading with this story, or the next two!), let's hope Jack finds the Fountain and gets enough of a swig to take off those extra years! ;-)

For a pirate, Jack is an old geezer, and Barbossa is positively ancient. Heck, that was true as of the FIRST Potc movie when I think about it... a 38 year old pirate is a pirate who has cheated death... ;)

five and six==let's see==I could age into my grave with more pirates until my 70th b.d.!!!! And the deal with ms. Cruz--they were certainly hot together in Blow. She seems to be a down to earth folk, hope she's written with just the perfect amount of "I'm so hot" + "I'm adventure Barbie". I really enjoy the Feisty girls==got very very very little use for the "Melaine's" (GWTW) of the world. "Mealy mouth, yuck who needs it!? Good God y'all" (sung to the tune of War)

Keira....come BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Promise Keira a script and no wetness. :) Fortunately her film career, while doing fine, isn't going gangbusters...I mean, it's not like she's the highest paid woman in film...so maybe they can lure her back with a hefty paycheck.

Jack simply must become Governor of the Bahamas in the next Pirates movie. Since a real life pirate did become governor of at least part of the Bahamas, how awesome would it be to manipulate that bit of history for PoTC? Not that Jack would be sitting behind a desk the whole time. I figure he'd get bored after a month and go back to his ship, and meanwhile Barbossa usurps the governorship, or some such thing.
