Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair and [livejournal.com profile] fabu...

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

This is more than a single sentence, but [livejournal.com profile] ladymora should like it...

...“You’ve been good, then? Behaved yourself an’ all?”

“Oh, aye!” Tom assured his father, gravely. “Except for the cat. And the pies.”

“The cat and the pies!” exclaimed Jack, frowning.

“And therein lies a tale, eh, young Tom?” said Gibbs coming up beside them, grinning.

“Aye, it does that!” Tom grinned back. Then he looked at his father again, and pasted a sober look on, though his brown eyes twinkled in an amazingly familiar way. “’Twas only Duchess, the parti-colored one. I tied goose quills to ‘er tail, an’ first she chased ‘em ‘round an’ ‘round, and then she got scared and ran up a tree!”

In other news, I was considerably depressed by the outcome of the election, along with everyone else around here, though I am so cynical about politics it didn't really surprise me. The world thinks we're idiots.

Life does go on. At least we're having beautiful weather. Fall color and the hills continue to get greener. Have lots to do at work, and the previously quoted NaNoWriMo fic proceeds apace, with lines and plot elements occurring at odd moments. I just need to write it all down! This Paid Employment really cuts into my writing time... *G*

Hugs to all!

heehee... the thought of Duchess being subjected to a small Jack lightened my day...

and I know what you mean about that dang paid employment! I don't have that problem this year, but I did last year. Of course, this year, I have that Grad School problem. I think it's not quite as bad though. ;)

Yay! Harry fic! I like the chosen name, and little Tom seems - from that brief glimpse - to be a real chip off the old block. Thanks for that, GM.

Ooh, good luck with the NaNoWriMo fic - if this is a sample, it sounds delightful!

Thanks! I'm falling behind with my word count, but hope to make it up this weekend. I've got the first few chapters outlined and have a beginning, middle and end in mind. Just have to set my mind to writing!

Yes, more Harry! I figure trying NaNoWriMo would at least give me a good start on this fourth fic, which has been simmering on the back burner for a while now, even if I don't get the whole thing done. I'll try, though. If you want to read it as I post it, here's the link - [livejournal.com profile] harry_iv. I'll have the next bit up tonight.

I owe you feedback for Escape. Arg. It's in my inbox. Good story, too. I keep thinking about that courtroom scene. Nice work.

So happy to have lightened your day! Hope your fic is coming along. I'm behind on word count, but have the first few chapters outlined. I'll be writing like mad this weekend.

The Grad School problem sounds nice actually. ;)

You wrote my cat into your novel! How cool! She's a celebrity now, in addition to being a peer! Hahah.

Love you and miss you. Will read when I have time (read: probably tomorrow after my talk, but maybe tonight).

Yes, I thought she'd be perfect for Tom to torment.

Love and miss you too, sweetie. Many hugs and kisses!

Poor Duchess *grin* Looks like the next in the series is going to be as good as the last (not that I had any doubt ;)) Very nice.

Harry and the Pirate IV?!

dead faint

I missed your glorious fic!

Every time NaNoWriMo comes along, I forget. This year's a good thing-between writer's block and obligatory(and consequently bad) writing... I'm stretched pretty thin. But it always seems like so much fun! Good luck with it :D

Thanks for the good luck wishes! Hope you have revived from your dead faint. Yes, indeed, I am writing another long Harry & the Pirate story, and attempting to do it for NaNoWriMo so I'll be done with it by December. That's the plan, anyway. Whether I succeed in this ambition is something else entirely. But I'll give it a shot.

So sorry to hear about the writer's block. I hope it heals itself soon. I was going to say I still owe you feedback for the last chapter of The Trouble, but I just read it and submitted a short review. Very good, actually--not sure where you get off talking about "bad writing". ;)

I owe you feedback for your last bit of the Norrie storyline, however. But must write myself, now: NaNoWriMo calls.

Ok, you've convinced me - I'm off to look up the original "Harry and the Pirate". I've been avoiding long and/or multi-sequeled fics for awhile, mostly because I print off the stories I want to read and read them on the bus between work and school. Long stories I have to save to a disk and read them on the computer at home on the weekends. But I've read so many comments from very happy "Harry..." readers that I'm giving in. (Plus your hint about Jack and James on Black Sails yesterday really intrigued me!) Off to find it and save it now! Next week I have a four day weekend and I think the first two stories will be just the thing.

I hope you enjoy it! I've done a bit of rewriting and correcting on the first story, and just posted the link on [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm this morning--the formatting and editing is sooooo much easier to do here than on ff.net. I'm hoping to start posting the second one soon, if [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth has enough time to beta for me.

Harry & the Pirate I was the first story I ever completed--prior to that all I ever wrote was smutty snippets of stuff. I kept Harry PG-13 'cause I wanted my family to read it, too--Mom, sister-in-law, daughters, etc. But it's a romance, and full of sexual inuendo, and I do write smutty Harry bits, I just haven't posted any. *G*

Again, I hope you enjoy reading it!

It's National Novel Writing Month, and it's a charity organization. You're supposed to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. Don't worry: I never heard of it a month ago either. ;)

Gaahh!! Lord o'mercy! 50,000 WORDS!!!

Well, now that I'm informed I can giggle at having that kind of time. Holy smokes! Tha'd be great.

Would love to see what you write, however. I'm certain it'd be just awesome.

Ta!

That's about 90 pages. Harry 1 was 47,000, and Norrington's Choice was 52,000. If you write about 1700 words every day, you got it made. Unfortunately, I'm way behind on word count.
