Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] the_dala and [livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair...

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

This is for [livejournal.com profile] ladymora. It's from our cruise to Alaska last summer. Good times.

Oh, I know! I was telling a friend just yesterday about the cruise, and about you and your delightful family. How I miss our dinners together. Hope your Mom & Dad & Brother are well.

If you want to look at the rest of what I've posted, here's the link. If I can finish the chapter of Harry IV I'm working on soon, maybe I'll see about formatting the rest of the pics and putting them up. About time, eh?

That is very pretty. I've been wanting to take a cruise to Alaska for years. I went on a cruise to Mexica, but somehow Mexico just doesn't hold the beuty Alaska does. Is that a glacier, or just a pile of snow? I have always wanted to know what a glacier actually looks like.

It is the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. It doesn't show in the picture--it was a very cloudy day when we took this--but glaciers are bright blue! I have much better pix of the Hubbard Glacier, which we saw several days later, on a perfect, sunny day. Maybe I'll get them posted today, since it's raining, and I'm nearly done with my Chapter 2 of Harry IV.

It is lovely. I think Alaska is one of the best places to go on a cruise--scenery all the way up and down the coast, and towns small enough to see on a day trip.

mmm ...

Absolutely lovely!

I grew up within a couple hours of Seattle, but I never got to Alaska. Odd, as I even had cousins up there for a time, running fishing boats. Beautiful photo - and beautiful thought. Indeed, there is more to enjoy than politics! :-) Thanks for sharing a magnificent view!
Cheers ~

Erin

Yay, I touched a glacier. I tasted a glacier too. It tastes like water.

Love you mamam! Keep writing!

Indeed, Alaska is absolutely lovely, and it's a great place to cruise.

Must optimize the rest and put them up at Photobucket, and write about some of the highlights--I never did that, and it was certainly a wonderful trip, well worth writing about.

A moment's breather from politics is definitely nice at this point. And hey, that view is gorgeous! I've always wanted to see the whole American west coast, from So Cal up north to Alaska. Some day I will!

(I'm sitting on my hands so as not to type that it looks just like Norway, but oops, there it spilled out. ;)

Oooh, glacier! Nice picture! I saw glaciers in Iceland once and it was very interesting. And there were seals swimming
around among the ice floes.

Yes, the West Coast is beautiful, and is some consolation for not having seen the fjords of Norway.

Have a great trip to Oslo. I have been there, and enjoyed it so much!

We saw very little wildlife on our trip, surprisingly. The Alleged Bears were a particularly sore point. The one animal we did see were Bald Eagles--they're everywhere up there! Quite a wonderful sight.

Hey, I'm a scientist...I gotta be inquisitive. What if it tasted salty? Salt-water freezes at much lower temperatures (or lower pressures, I think), so one could conclude some interesting things about how glaciers are formed. As it was, the fact that they're blue is totally neat from a geek perspective. :D

I toured Alaska twice (once for pleasure and once for business) in 2002, and of course saw the Mendenhall glacier!! And the blue thing is *totally* cool. I was a little luckier on wildlife. Saw some grizzlies at Denali NP, and also seal lions, otters, dolphins and whales. Lots of moose and at least one bald eagle.

(Now, do I have pics? Hmmm)
