I am so behind in leaving comments, but mean to catch up this weekend, and post some new pics of grandson, too. In the meantime, with thanks to hereswith for beta reading, here's 200 words for the 'damsel' prompt...




The Moral Advantage: Damsel at Breakfast


William, tell me something. Have you come because you need my help to save a certain distressing damsel –or rather, damsel in distress...

Elizabeth gave a sniff, somewhat annoyed at hearing the echo of those words in her head as she sat eating breakfast in the Pearl’s Great Cabin with her roguish savior. Rescued. She and her unborn child. From the safer and more secure existence to be had within the confines of the English countryside, in the bosom of her cousin’s family. She said to him, “You know, Jack, I would far rather be considered a distressing damsel than a damsel in distress.”

Jack’s eyes widened, and he replied with great sincerity. “I’m quite aware, ‘Lizabeth. None moreso, actually, given the interesting nature of our association in recent years.” She felt a flush suffuse her cheeks and, predictably, he looked pleased. “I’d’ve thought you’d be happy to be given the opportunity to continue in that vein, love.” He picked up her hand and kissed it, all the while watching her reaction.

She could not help laughing, but shook her head. “So it’s as you said: feet to the fire.”

“Oh, yes,” he agreed, a wicked gleam in his eye.
