A veil of sand on the pure skin of her foot.
The glow of sunset touching the rose-kissed cheekbone.
The burnished gold of that heavy tangle of hair.
The modest linen, stretched just tight enough across that untouched bosom to show clear evidence that the breeze is waxing chill.
Just. Tight. Enough.
Lord.
He struggles to his feet, hoping she won’t notice anything untoward as she looks up from the bottle she’s been nursing. With those delectable lips.
He clears his throat, stifling a groan. Or possibly a whine.
She arches one perfect brow (soft as feathers under his thumb, or would be).
He sways, enunciating carefully. “If you’ll excuse me, Miss Swann.”
She catches the implication. “Oh. Of course.” Turns her gaze to the sea.
Tantalus. Staggering off toward the privacy of a distant thicket, Jack reflects that there’s something to be said for a classical education after all.
