dwgm: (Jack - WTF?)
[personal profile] dwgm
Yay! I finally completed this (my pirate!Muse has been very uncooperative of late), and it works for 'hammock', 'antipathy', and the current prompt, 'captain'. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] florencia7 for the virtual gift of a bronze pencil -- my dear, I think it worked!

*waves to all piratey friends*

~ A Bad Morning ~

The over-vehement roar - SHOW A LEG, SAILOR! - and the sensation of being tossed from dreams, rest, and hammock were so bone-deep familiar that Jack, thudding catlike to the deck, startled but unharmed, yelped, “Aye, sir!” before remembering who he was, as well as when (more or less) and uttered in stunned query, “What?”

Where was a different matter, however.

“There’s been a horrible mistake, I’m not supposed to be here,” he protested as he was hustled from the cool shadows of the gun deck into the glaring sun.

Topside there were all manner of disturbing sights (a glass coffin? And what was that gent doing tied halfway up the foremast?) and sounds (the hideously rhythmic hiss/slap of the cat and attendant half-stifled wails, not quite drowned by a din of holystones).

A swab was thrust into his unwilling hands. He blurted, "Where am I?”

His tormentor chuckled. “Allow me to welcome you aboard our world-renowned vessel of infamy - Queen Anne's Revenge.”

The identity of his probable host drew a gasp. “Blackbeard.” Not good.

But there was worse. Zombies. The smell of an ill-kempt crew five days from land. Angelica.

“Steady as she goes!”

Jack set his teeth at the sound of that all-too-familiar voice, consternation giving way to a rising, righteous anger. Captain Jack Sparrow, shanghaied for purposes as yet to be revealed by a chit he’d thought himself shut of years ago!

And she bloody knew he was not a morning person.

Hi, there <3 And here today I was just wondering why I haven't seen much of you on LJ lately, AND last night I just watched this movie... XD

Poor Jack.

Ha! I watched Curse of the Black Pearl last night!

It's been pretty busy at work and at home (little Z's been here on weekends -- he's loving the swimming!), but now that summer is ending things will be winding down a bit. Do hope to de-lurk more, now.

Hope all is well with you!!

That last line is priceless!

And the rest of it's above-average too. I'm sure, once you've been a Captain, the lot of a lowly tar must be downright intolerable.

Thank you! It took me weeks to come up with an ending to this, and it's a great relief to know the end works!

once you've been a Captain, the lot of a lowly tar must be downright intolerable.

I expect so, though Jack is pretty adaptable. Still, that "Aye, sir!" and the confused, "What?" after he falls out of his hammock is one of my fave moments in OST. He wasn't always Captain Jack Sparrow.

Indeed. The scriptwriters obviously put some thought into that bit.

First I fell in love with the first sentence. One of my favourite moments in OST, and you captured - and enriched - that perfectly.
But then I saw the last sentence! Yay!!! *g*

Mine too! And I had to use it for the 'hammock' prompt, it was just too perfect. I'm so glad you liked the way it turned out. Thank you so much for commenting, I really appreciate the feedback.

I think the pen did finally work, this one was very slow going but it came out OK and I'm so glad you liked the end! Thank you again for the virtual gift, and for reading and commenting here.

I loved that scene a great deal becos it's true, after years of such there was no way otherwise he would have automatically responded. And there was the what the hell lucille? aspect of the unreality as his mind gradually caught up with his body's reality. LOL, pluperfect response absolutely showcasing Jack as he was at that particular part of his current adventure. No doubt about it either--would have made him utterly bugshagging crazy with anger to think he had been pressganged. Thank you for this delight.

I thought that little snippet was one of the best scenes in OST, and it was the first thing I thought of when you posted the prompt 'Hammock'. Thank you for that, and for reading and commenting here. Very much appreciated.

helpless giggles...

So tickled to see even something small from you. I've sadly watched the fandom languish unable to prod it. This is a treat, ma'am.

I'm so happy you liked it! (And thank you for that paper sculpture email, such amazing art!) I'll see if I can't contribute more regularly here, now that summer and the beginning of school are done. Thank you so much for reading and commenting, I truly appreciate it.

Miz ladymouse2, it's just resting its eyes, like my grandma used to say. And doesn't GMa2 know, at least for myself, there's some folks I'd read if it was a list of chores. Like you, sweet piratista, I love seeing anything with your handle attached--some folks is just burdened with being bright..brains and heart...I know it's work, but someone has to do it. Causes the others of the crew to straighten shoulders and take that next other step. So thanks for living in this world and sharing with all yourself.
(one of GMa2's many projects?Pets?Krewe? ps)

Nice to see you!

I like the drabble - I can definitely see Jack as not a morning person. Something the two of us have in common.

You sure couldn't tell it by looking at Johnny Depp, could you? I frequently wonder whether he has a portrait hidden in a closet....
