Piratical Cookie, Recs, and Drabble

oiseaurobyn, our Alaskan Cruise buddy, made gingerbread cookies today, and she made a Jack Sparrow one for me! How cool is that?

I didn't realize I hadn't posted anything in a week. I've been struggling with January Blues, although I'm not taking the decorations down until next weekend, when I have an extra day off. It's been raining all week, off and on (definitely "on" for the last 36 hours), and ordinarily I like rain, but I'm just getting tired of it. We've had more than our annual average already, and it's only the first week of January. weemonkey6 caught strep throat this week, which necessitated a visit to the doctor for meds. My new computer is OK (not great, just OK).

One truly wonderful thing about the last week has been the abundance of great new pirate!fic. megpie71 posted some untitled het Pirate!smut, featuring Jack and an OFC, so very unusual at pirategasm, and which I quite liked. My fellow Black Pearl Sails crewmember, torn_eledhwen, finished her exciting 13-part J/A fic, Escape Is Not An Option (the link goes to the last chapter, the others are linked at the bottom of that page). the_stowaway has favored us with an excellent new story, Compromises, which is a sequel to her Trust and Honor. the_stowaway is another Georgette Heyer fan, and it shows in her writing, which is replete with delightful period detail. Then (miracle of miracles!), on the first day of the new year, darling firesignwriter started finally posting the final bits of Jjail, which is, arguably, the best Sparrington in existance, utterly hilarious, amazingly hot, and Jack and James absolutely in character throughout. Jjail has been a work-in-progress since about this time last year, and faithful readers despaired over the cliffhanger KayJay left. However, all is now well: the story proceeds apace, and it's as though she'd never set it aside for all those months: as brilliant as ever!

Also utterly brilliant is viva_gloria. As if her previous outpouring of great PotC stories and the genius of her work at impofperversity wasn't enough, she is now posting a story called Marooned, a chapter a day over the course of this month. What a treat it is to check my flist each morning and find a lucious new bit of this great story waiting to be read!

Gloria is famed for her 1200-word "sentences", fics that take punctuation abuse to new heights. ;) Besides her excellent Sparrington ones, which can be found at her website, she has written a huge series of them for impofperversity--very hot stuff: you will go *thud* upon reading them, more often than not. Anyway, I borrowed this strangely enthralling style of writing for my latest drabble, which is another Harry & the Pirate I "Outtake", written for the "Bad Weather" Drabble Challenge at Black Pearl Sails (which I issued, btw, due to my disgust with the constant rain and cold this week). It's a double drabble: 200 words without the title.

Awww.. I'm very sorry for your bluzie feeling. I know how you feel and mine started before Christmas..

We just today took down the tree, dusted, swept and basically cleaned until fingers were tender. It was time. I must say, it's been a bit uplifting to be done with all that. Maybe it was all the dust working against my allergies..

I suggest you sit down with a good, light-hearted romantic comedy and smile yourself silly. Today we watched Two Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant, whom I absolutely adore, and Sandra Bullock, yet someone else I adore, and smiled until our cheeks cramped. Another good one is Love Actually, which has Grant as Prime Minister of England, but basically a mixture of like 8 different story lines and how they all come together in the end. It's really very good. Warning: there are some tear-jerker scenes, but thankfully they are short and most end with a laugh.

Well, I do hope things improve for you in the wheather area. Our rain has finally quit the area and we had mid-60's and sunshine for the last few days. It will all go away come Wednesday of next week when our next cool front moves in, but the reprieve from the rain was a good sigh of relief.

Oh, thanks! I actually feel better today. I think I was just over-tired earlier in the week, which didn't help anything--too much staying up late, and then having to adjust to getting up early again.

Our decorations still look so pretty I don't want to take them down yet! I'll do it next week, on MLK day, which is only two days before the cleaner comes. If always looks so dull when one puts the decorations away.

Glad you are seeing some nice weather. It is absolutely pouring tonight, but hopefully we'll get a break in a day or two.

aw, thankees..

Things are getting better in that arena.. but I'm under no illusions that it will remain that way. It's like the calm before the storm, but I'm going to just enjoy the calm for now.

Have you seen this month's issue of Entertainment? Absoltely beautiful cover with Johnny and Kate on it. The article inside of them being interviewed about Finding Neverland is very nice.. but the pics...*sighs*.. remarkable.

I saw that you posted about the magazine--right after I got home from the store! Maybe I'll be able to pick it up tomorrow--I need to take a couple of movies back, anyway. I rented The Bourne Supremacy, and Elf, both pretty good. I've seen the two you mentioned--they are on HBO lately. I like Hugh Grant: he's always fun to watch.

It was sheer luck that I got that particular issue in the mail. I signed up for a free trial subscription while purchasing some Christmas gifts at Best Buy and THAT was my first free issue that I got in the mail! What luck, eh?

Ah, Hugh Grant's amazing. I absolutely fell in love with him in Sense and Sensability. It's a movie that I must own this year. He's simply adorable. He really has a nice natural comedic talent about him.

In Two Weeks Notice, I love the end scene where she's ordering Chinese take-out and he's marveling at the size of the apartment she lives in.

He says something like, "I can't get over how small this apartment is... it's quite shocking, really."

Truly a cute movie that I must add to a collection. I just might have to make a Hugh Grant DVD collection now that my Depp collection is nearly complete.

Hugh Grant was great in Two Weeks Notice. Have you seen him in About A Boy? Great movie, truly. Also liked him in Briget Jones, though I haven't seen the second one. I like it when he plays against his usual type (handsome, bumbling Brit).

I've owned Sense & Sensibility since it was first available. I adore Emma Thompson, and that was her baby. Also am very fond of the whole cast in that one. A wonderful movie.

You own Sense & Sensability? I would've sooner, but it's difficult finding 'girl only' time on the TV in the family room. This is about the time I wish I had a daughter to share my favorite chick-flick's with.

Emma Thompson is fantastic (loved her and her husband in Much Ado About Nothing) and so too was Kate Winslet in that movie. Truely wonderful how she has grown personally. It shows in her acting now and was added to the artistry of her role in Finding Neverland.

Hill-walking! That sounds like fun. I've been watching the pouring rain all day, and watching movies when not reading Pirate!Smut (instead of writing thank you notes and paying bills). I was checking the flist every so often in the hope of finding more Marooned. Thanks for alerting me.

I have grown very, very fond of your "Sentences", and that particular scene just seemed to call for it. ;)

I was so lucky that way. My older daughter (ladymora), especially has the same tastes in movies and books as I. My little one, weemonkey6, likes darker movies and stories--the guys love her!

And I recommend the BBC's "Pride and Prejudice" for literary girl movie time. Colin Firth is dreamy.

Oh, I loved that version of Pride and Prejudice. I'll have to look into getting that one on DVD. Also thought their version of Emma (with Kath Beckensale) was better than the movie version (with Gwyneth Paltrow).
