Not doing these in order, but I will do them all. This was [livejournal.com profile] hereswith's request...

~ Diversity ~

He didn’t wake when she sat by him, perching on the edge of the narrow cot, so she set the glass carefully on the floor, and looked her fill for a change. His bright fever-flush had ebbed to pale relief. He was mending, as Jack had predicted.

Treating that wound had sure taken the starch out of him, though. His face was etched with the memory of it. A brave man, the Scourge of Piracy.

Covered only with a sheet, he looked so thin and drawn she could count his bones. They’d thrown his wig to the sharks, and his short brown hair lay lank against his forehead.

So different from Jack’s.

Anamaria frowned, and reached up, and lightly stroked it back. And then started: his eyes were open.

“Sorry!”

His voice rasped, wearily. “No.”

“I’ve brought your draught.”

She started to reach for it, but one hand flailed, catching hers.

“No. I… don’t want to be drugged.”

His eyes pleaded, and she smiled. “It’s water, sweetened with rum, is all, this time.”

He sighed, retaining the hand. Then drew her fingers against his lips. “My good nurse,” he murmured.

Her breath stuttered.

Not so different from Jack, after all.

Get out of my head!

No, no! Don't tell her that! We need more J/A/J -- [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway's over at [livejournal.com profile] rough_magic is lovely, but we need more, so get busy. ;)

So happy you enjoyed this.

Yes, we need more authors to hop on the J/A/J bandwagon. ;)

Nothing like a little h/c to brighten up a rainy Sunday, eh? Glad you liked it!

*glomps* I love you! This made my whole Sunday, really it did, thanks ever so much. You've captured both of them so well, all the little details are great, and they threw his wig to the sharks, no less! Should you ever get the inclination to add to this, I'd worship at your feet... just so you know ;-)

I'm so happy you liked this. Yes, the sharks can definitely have the wig. As for continuing it...well, you never know. ;)

It's an interesting pairing, and we're not the only ones who think so. [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway wrote some rather excellent James/Anamaria, followed by J/A/J, that she posted on [livejournal.com profile] rough_magic, and I am hoping [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria will write some in her Marooned universe, eventually.

I loved the Marooned bits, and I shall have to look up the N/A parts [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway has written too. One of these days I must try my hand at it myself, feels kind of silly I'm always asking for the pairing and never write it. I've been meaning to for ages, but never seem to get around to it. Perhaps after my *ahem* first time fic is done.

I noticed the "put it on my to-do list" further down in the thread, and am keeping my fingers crossed... :-)

Oh, love this. James/Anamaria is a difficult pairing to get right, but you managed admirably. Wonderful last line.

Anamaria's a tricky one. I'm glad no one seems to think she comes off too soft in this. But she can't be a hellion all the time.

From: [identity profile] berne.livejournal.com
I did wonder if she was a little soft, but I mulled it over a bit and thought it suited the situation. Like you say, it would be exhausting to be a screeching, slap-happy pirate all the time. :D

From: [identity profile] geekmama.livejournal.com
The only hint of softness we see of her in the movie is the very end, where she's giving Jack his coat and his ship, and even then she sounds a little ironic. I don't think she'd be one to take any nonsense from a man, but I think she could, nevertheless, be a good friend, always keeping in mind that she has no illusions about the little games they play with women.

These lines caught me completely off guard, and I actually welled up over them (softie, me!). I rarely allow myself to feel for N., but this passage just about killed me.

No, I'm not crying for Norrington!

I learned to love Norrie through all the great Sparrington around LJ first, and then by watching him carefully in the movie. He is so exquisitely snarky, but you can tell he's a sensitive soul too, poor guy. Jack Dav. did a great job bringing him to life. I'm so glad he'll be in the sequels. He's a wonderful character.

Oh, wonderful! I always love to see Anamaria in fic, and seeing her interact with Norrington is just icing on the cake. I like the way you sketch in the backstory, and the voices for both characters ring very true to me. It stands well on its own, but I'd love to see it expanded into a longer piece, if you're ever in the mood.

I'm kinda getting into this N/A thing--and N/A/J is pretty great, too! I'm in the middle of a longer fic at the moment, but perhaps I'll add that to my to-do list. So glad you liked this one.

This is lovely! I don't think Anamaria is too soft, because the softness is when there's no one to see it, then - oops! - he's awake.

Really like the idea of N/A (wonder how much of that is because the first time I saw anyone tackle it was in [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria's Marooned? She could probably convince me the governor would like Scarlet).

Thanks. I figure she'd cut him some slack, seeing as he's under the weather. One needs to stike a fine balance with Anamaria--make her too screechy and slappy and she gets really annoying: I've seen it happen in some fics. But you certainly can't make her a softie--she's not only a pirate, she's a woman, which means she needs to be twice as sharp as the guys to get any respect. ;) I love the way Lizzie is handling her in Malabar Trade! Perfect!

I am in total agreement with you on Gloria's persuasiveness--the Gov & Scarlett? No problem.

Thanks to you I'm now a squeeing puddle of goo.
I like Anamaria - she is a tough girl but certainly not a constantly shrieking harpy as she is so often depicted. Your version of her persona suits her perfectly and made her breathe.

*Offers you cake*
Please keep the thought of writing more in this storyline.

Thanks so much for the enthusiastic comments! I'm so happy you liked it enough to want more.

I may, actually, continue this, eventually--it sort of goes along with an element in the longer fic I'm currently working on, which some readers wanted more info on, too. (Does that even make sense?) Anyway, I'll put it on my to-do list!

And which would that longer fic be, that you are working on...?

What a lovely compliment! That made my day, right there!

The long fic is Harry & the Pirate and its three sequels, several "deleted scenes" and attendent short stories. I started it in December '03, and have been writing pretty constantly ever since, as my readers are kind enough to request more, and I keep managing to come up with enough new material to keep it interesting. It's here if you want to check it out.

Thanks again for the kind words. They are so very much appreciated.

My goodness!

Is there ANYTHING you've written that I haven't liked? I can't believe that a pairing like this would catch me by the heartstring, but you've done it to me again. Like several other comments I've seen here, I'm very curious to know the "bookends" to this story now... dangit. Another distraction! lol

That's what I think. I've read a few fics by other people where I really liked it, and it's surprisingly easy to visualize.

Glad you liked this ficlet. Thanks for reading and commenting.
