An eventful week, fandomwise, even discounting the kerfluffle last weekend...
[livejournal.com profile] tessabeth finished her brilliant story Malabar Trade, and she and [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria finished up the 75th and last chapter of their masterpiece, An Alchemical Prescription. Not sure how I am going to be able to cope without regular infusions of JS/JS from them. It's been an amazing ride, to put it mildly.

[livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter drew my attention to some shiny Sparrington, Negotiations, by a newcomer to the PotC fandom, [livejournal.com profile] galadhir, and wow! is it ever excellent-- chapters 1, 2, and 3 are posted, and I, for one, can't wait for more.

And, speaking of [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter, this morning she sent in a request to join Black Pearl Sails, which totally blew me away! *bounces gleefully*

BP Sails has always had a lot of great writers, but lately there has been a wonderful infusion of new ones coming over from Live Journal. This cross-pollination can only be good for the PotC fandom.

I have been doing some beta reading this week, too. [livejournal.com profile] hereswith let me read and offer comments on the beginning of her next J/E offering--be sure to have a fan handy when that's finally posted! And [livejournal.com profile] hendercats allowed me to read and edit her offering for [livejournal.com profile] fabu's Chinese Menu Challenge: really a good one, and something different to boot! I do love me some Groves.

And now...check it! A little piece of J/E smut that covers THREE challenges! (Nothing like cheating, eh?)

1. The Black Pearl Sails Drabble Challenge for this week: Breath or Breathing
2. [livejournal.com profile] fabu's Chinese Menu Challenge: A storm at sea/Jack & Elizabeth/ship, a jar of pleasantly scented oil (heh!), and PIE!!!
3. The Drabble/Ficlet Request Meme: Jack/Pearl, written for Miya Sparrow (of ff.net).

This is a sequel to Sick of Love

Heavenscent

There was something odd about the light.

Jack stirred, and reluctantly submitted to waking. He took a deep, slow breath and could not stop the smile that tipped the corners of his mouth at the combined scents that teased him: vanilla and coconut (that jar of heaven-scented oil had rarely seen such heavenly use); Elizabeth (heaven-scented herself, truly); and the sea’s breath, lightly gusting through the window they’d left partially open.

Faint shipboard activity could be heard, and the Pearl’s sounds coalesced, tugging at him.

Elizabeth’s head lay heavy on his shoulder, her arm across his chest, her knee between his, her body warm all along his side.

Heaven.

Even if his arm was asleep.

Another waft of sea air, and he breathed deep again. Time to get up.

He opened his eyes. Hair the color of antique gold spread curling over her. Beautiful, though thankfully not long enough to hide other beauties: the dip of trim waist; the perfection of that rounded backside (had he put that mark there?); the strong, slender legs, the elegant ankles and fine-boned, pink feet. All of them delicious. A feast for the senses.

Heaven.

The breeze gusted again, more demandingly, and the Pearl sang in response. He turned his head: the light was odd, casting beams over the floor, making the tarnished tray and the crumbs from the half-eaten pasties glow like treasure.

So that was it.

All right.

“’Liz’beth?” he said softly. He stroked her smooth cheek very lightly with one calloused finger.

She stirred against him. Opened her eyes (wonderful! And calm, now. A wave of remembrance and satisfaction washed through him). Moved her head, so she could see him, her lips curving.

He said, gently, “Pearl’s calling me, love. Have to get up.”

She pouted and curled into him, but then looked around, and saw what was happening, heard the faint but boding resonance.

She looked at him again. “A storm?”

“Aye. Another one.”

She smiled at that. Her hand drifted over his chest. “I’ll come too, shall I?”

It occurred to him that, unthinkable as he’d considered it, his Pearl had a rival here. Or a match, maybe. A happiness too deep for words or smiles, in any case. So he said only, “I’d like that,” and kissed her, just once more.

Always just once more.

And now, back to work on [livejournal.com profile] harry_iv -- chapter nine is half done, and [livejournal.com profile] hereswith liked it, so I guess it's fit for public consumption. Hopefully I can finish the other half soon and get it posted: it's been way too long since I updated.

So lovely. And the last three paragraphs are beautiful, and just perfect. I really needed something like this right now, I'm all entangled in words and sentences, but I am determined to have something more for you tomorrow ;-)

Thank you so much--I'm so happy you enjoyed it, and found it inspiring. I'm anxiously awaiting more of yours, and maybe I'll have some more Harry IV for you tomorrow, too.

That.... was deliciously beautiful...

I don't think I can think of anything more constructive to say - I'm just floating about in a very happy place :-)

Thank you

Jack/Liz/Pearl--OT3!

This is glorious. Vivid images--I love the way you described the light in the cabin, I could see it. Also enjoyed Jack's naughty little parenthetical about the mark he'd left on Elizabeth. :-)

Very clever, doing all three challenges in one go. Beautiful work, as always.

OT3, indeed! Good observation. I think you write that, too, and really, if one is going to write J/E, that's the way it needs to be.

Thank you so much for the enthusiastic comments. They are very much appreciated. :)

Beautiful. Jack/Pearl + Jack/Elizabeth + Elizabeth/Pearl = Jack/Elizabeth/Pearl.

Yes, OT3! It wouldn't do for the Pearl to be at odds with Elizabeth.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for commenting.

Thanks for pimping my fic! I'm very honoured :) 'Heavenscent' is amazing - I normally don't like het at all, but this was so lovely it's rather changed my mind. I like the 'once more' that echoes Will + Elizabeth's conversation in the beginning of the film. Very clever.

You know I didn't even conciously think of that 'once more' in the movie when I wrote that, but I've seen the movie so many times that stuff just seems to pop into my head when I'm writing. So happy you enjoyed this little scene, in spite of it being het. I have a J/E plotline I write off and on, and this goes along with that story.

Very happy to pimp the fic, and am anxiously waiting to read more.

Perfectly lovely waking-up feeling to that bit.

If I wasn't always behind you in commenting on Impverse fic, you'd know how much I love it when an author captures light. You've exactly caught that "a bit off" sense to pre-storm lighting throughout this piece.

And then, of course, there's your J/E ... (to steal a thought) heavenly.

It's always gratifying to know that the words conveyed my meaning. I want to do a follow-up piece to this, with Elizabeth on deck during the storm (I'm picturing a sort of exhilarating tropical squall, rather than anything too horrendous, such as the one depicted in the movie), but it'll have to wait--wouldn't fit with the "Mr. Cotton's Parrot" drabble theme this week.

So happy you enjoyed this, and that you like my J/E universe. I find it a pleasant diversion, myself!

I'll be sending you your edited story in the next hour--I was almost done editing and was about to get it ready for emailing when my TA arrived and I had to go off to lunch (I'm home, at the moment). I've made a few suggestions, but nothing major. Great little story!

Parrot could be watching from some sheltered spot ... but then, he's far too fun to just have a cameo appearance. :)

Lovely, and I like the way you captured the odd quality of light before a storm - it's always _beautiful_, but just slightly not-quite-right.
