- beatles:
I remember my mom coming into my room to get me so I could see The Beatles the first time they were on Ed Sullivan. I was doing homework. I took a look at the frenzy, and kind of went, "Hmmm... OK," and went back to the homework.
The next time I saw them was in "A Hard Day's Night". I fell in love. A year later I had hundreds of pictures of them wallpapering my room. (Of course I would no longer dress in there...all those eyes, you know.)
I still love them, and their music. - birds:
At one time we had a whole room in our house devoted to birds. We raised cockatiels and lovebirds, and even had a small green parrot (a red-fronted Amazon) named Taco. We sold Taco when
ladymora was two and a half years old, and she has never forgiven us. - chocolate:
The perfect food. See's is my favorite. It's better than Godiva, and less expensive. - cooking:
When I was in elementary school, right after my mother started working and I had a little time to myself at home, I used to invent weird after school snacks, most of which were even edible. When I was a little older, I started going to the library and checking out cookbooks -- I particularly liked international ones -- and copying down appealing recipes. By the time I got married, I knew how to cook (I did my first Thanksgiving Dinner at 13 when my Mom's back was out) and had a huge collection of recipes to try out on my new 'guinea pig', who was remarkably easy to please.
And now I have hundreds of cookbooks, but rarely ever cook. Such is life. - england:
I've been to England exactly once, on a two-hour layover at Heathrow Airport. However, I've been crazy about England and the English since I was a little kid. Cary Grant and David Niven were two of my favorite actors early on, and then I saw Richard Burton as Calaban in The Tempest on TV and never really recovered. My Fair Lady (Rex Harrison, and a very young and sweet Julie Andrews) was a seminal influence as well, and began my love affair with Broadway Musicals.
There's just something about those Brits, isn't there? The accents...the dry humor...the brilliant turns of phrase. Most of my favorite authors are British. Many of my favorite performers are British. Of all the wonderful places there are to visit in Europe (to which continent I've only journeyed once), the British Isles is the place I'd most like to spend time really seeing.
And, of course, they are justly famous for grace under pressure, a trait that I find completely admirable, and that should be an example to us all. - graphic design:
ladymora and
weemonkey6 are wonderful artists, but they did not inherit that from me. Stick figures. I kid you not. But with the advent of the computer, all that changed for me. I've taken some classes, and my employers have generously kept me supplied with good software. Thanks to computers, I can now produce all kinds of beautiful, and sometimes useful, things. - humor:
Humorous writing is always my favorite kind, and even if a story is dramatic, if there's no humor in the writing it doesn't ring true to me. This is probably because the funniest people I know are those that have really seen some hard times and yet have survived, and survived well. Laughter and pain go hand in hand. I'm always suspicious of people with no sense of humor, who are too sure of themselves and their perception of the world. - mp3s:

I love P.J. O'Rourke. Seriously. I love the way he thinks, and the way he expresses those thoughts through his humorous, and very perceptive writing. He could almost convince me to vote Republican. Almost. - shakespeare:
See #5. I fell in love with Shakespeare at the same time I fell in love with Richard Burton. My feelings about Shakespeare haven't changed.
