Request Drabble: 'Insight'
Dec. 28th, 2005 03:46 pmFinally getting a couple of those request drabbles done. This one is for
alilacia who wanted "Jack Sparrow or Will Turner. Both would be a lovely bonus and them together would be even better :D Prompt: Ocean, embrace, longing."
~ Insight ~
Respect gained a tenuous but necessary foothold after the Yardarm Incident. Whether he’d been a pirate or not, Will certainly recalled his father’s ocean-longing and, as the hours passed on this first voyage since his crossing from England, could understand, and even embrace it under Sparrow’s patient tutelage.
Then later, and more disturbingly, it occured to him that Sparrow himself was like the sea, with a surface dazzling and changeable, and depths that held fearful, delightful mysteries.
Was that the other side of the coin? The key to his father’s divided heart? He could not think it!
But at night, watching the pirate woo his “pretty boat” by moonlight, skilled hands caressing rope, spar, and wheel, lips muttering endearments with a half-smile, Will thought, perhaps, he could after all.

And this, I have to say, is the best description of Jack I've read for a long time *g*
I second the comment that maybe you might find the desire to expand on it. But a part of me also wishes for it to be left as it is. Not that I wouldn't want to see more of these characters and this world you flawlessly weave your magic in, but it's perfect as it is :-)
Thank you :)

Date: 2005-12-30 02:29 pm (UTC)Such a lovely picture--Will learning the fascination of the sea that held his father. And of course Jack's so clear connection to the sea that Will realizes may have also fascinated his father.
watching the pirate woo his “pretty boat” by moonlight, skilled hands caressing rope, spar, and wheel, lips muttering endearments with a half-smile I do love Jack romancing his ships. Mmmmmmm.
This is really about Will learning to forgive his father. Part of that squaring with his pirate blood.
Lovely drabble.

And yes, Jack romancing his ships is always yummy.
Thanks so much for reading and writing such a thoughtful comment!
