Thanks and a Drabble
Feb. 14th, 2006 10:13 amHappy Valentine's Day to all, and profuse thanks to the anonymous friend who gave me a red rose for my profile page! You are too, too kind!
I wrote a drabble for the current challenge at Black Pearl Sails, the theme of which is certainly not in keeping with the spirit of the day...
Sinister she was, black, rotting, shrouded in clinging, trailing fog. Sinister, she moved in near silence over the water, gliding into the harbor under the close-clouded sky. She knew they felt her presence: a change in the wind. The gold drew her, as it drew all those aboard.
But she alone sensed another spirit, a Presence here, somewhere in the quiet town. Faint, but still flickering, it was strong enough to remind her of a distant, almost forgotten past, when days were held dear in the search for new horizons. When she embodied not dread, death and darkness, but Freedom.
