I'm in pain after watching that because they've taken to destroying ships like a lot of films destroy cars. Just one after the other, like it's just transport, like it doesn't matter.

A ship has a SOUL damn it, and a ship sinking should have more impact than 'we're without ship now'. If one of the ships I sail on would sink, even if I wasn't on it at the time, I would cry my eyes out.

I agree with you about the ships. I've been writing them as characters talking to each other lately. But if it's any consolation, I think they only showed one ship going down on the trailer although they showed some battle damage to others. They just showed several different shots, some taken at different times. The ship Will is on at the beginning, for instance, is the same one the Kraken is taking down later in the trailer. As usual linear time is irrelevant on trailers.

Ah, I didn't realise it was the same ship. I haven't kept up with the rumours at ALL because I'm so far out of this fandom. But I still hope they'll give her sinking the appropriate mourning, especially in Jack.

I know after writing the conversation between the Black Pearl and the Interceptor while she was waiting to blow up, I was in mourning. And I knew the Lady Washington was fine. *Shakes head at fiction.* I always thought Jack didn't want holes in either of his ships, and that start of shock when the Interceptor blew up was for both her and Will. I really join you in hoping the writers treat the ships in PotC2 with the love they deserve.

I've been reading Derek Lundy's The Way of a Ship, nearing the end of it, actually, and thinking of all those ships (and men) that were considered, if not expendable, then at least well worth risking in the name of profit. They were a means to an end, not the end itself as they are now.

But the Black Pearl is Special in the context of the story, so I don't imagine we'll have any worries there.

Excuse me while I yell: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE! Now. Deep breath. All right. It's official. I am going to spontaneously combust long before July. Will someone please box my remains and take them to the opening night? Jack is as beautiful and sneaky and flirtatious and funny as ever, and as corny as it is, I love the sun flare shot. Will is looking dangerous and sexy leaping off ships and fighting with flaming swords and dodging underwater spears. And Elizabeth is beautiful and fiesty and gets that magnificent double underarm stab at those two critters. As usual, I'm in love with them all. Did I mention I can't wait? Is anybody at Disney listening? I didn't think so. *combusts*

I think Jack will meet or exceed our expectations in this, which is the main thing for me (and lots of others). And, from what I've read, I am hopeful that the powers-that-be will see that the other characters are developed in a way that will sustain interest in the movie as a story, not just as a showcase for stunts and computer graphics. I know they're down to the editing/CGI/music now, and so much depends on those. We'll keep our fingers crossed (and try not to combust, although I see it's already too late for you. *G*).

Things I am in continual squee-mode about (besides the trailer in general):

*Liz kicking ASS with those two swords. And the shot with the pistol.
*Jack saying "Oh, bugger." I laugh every time.
*Davy Jones playing the piano? Harpsichord? Organ? Whatever that is...with his TENTACLES.
*Tia Dalma. I love her already.
*Gibbs and Cotton!
*The Jack/Liz interplay. "I happen to have no dress in my cabin."

Things that worry/annoy me:
*As Honorat and Arwen already said, the poor ships! *huggles ships*
*No Ana, although we knew that already, of course.

Things that make me go "huh":
*Was that Bill covered in coral?
*Why so little Will? The trailer seems very focused on Jack and Liz. Not that I'm complaining, but it seems odd.

Also, the whole chest/heart pun thing? Makes me giggle.

It needs to be July now.

Davy Jones playing the organ is very cool, and a tribute to Captain Nemo in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The fight with the Krakan is a riff on the Giant Squid in that movie as well.

The trailer may be focused on Jack and Liz, but I believe Will is a very major player in this and will get lots of air time in the actual movie. But the trailer is meant to sell the movie, and it's Jack-as-interpreted-by-Depp that really made the first one something entirely out of the ordinary so I don't think it's surprising that the trailer focuses on him.

I didn't know that about the 20000 Leagues tribute. That's pretty awesome.

I'm looking forward to the Will/Bill interaction that was hinted at in the spoilers, so I think you're absolutely right about the sell-angle. Because, as you say, Jack is worth the price of his admission all by himself.

Any word yet on what major feature the trailer will be released with? Because it might be worth the price of admission just to see the trailer on the big screen. *hopes it's not Poseidon*

Someone said it might come out this Friday, before Mission Impossible III.

Poseidon looks pretty exciting. Don't you want to see it?

Don't know why I had a bleah reaction to the trailer for that one, since it's a ship movie AND a disaster movie and should therefore be right up my alley. Maybe because I generally judge movies by their billed actors, and Poseidon is somewhat lacking in that department. I could be wrong though.

Argh to Mission Impossible. The series is cool, but Tom Cruise scares me now. I feel like buying a ticket would be putting money in the pocket of the Church of Scientology. But if the PotC trailer leads it, I may have to see it after all. (Some kind of reverse marketing going on there.)

Why can't I get it to work for more than 1/5th of the preview? WHY?? :: cries ::

I can't even figure out how to find the dang thing somewhere else XP All I'm finding is the old trailer.

Have you bought the Narnia DVD yet? The old PotC trailer is on it.

Silly computers :-) I'm still all *squee* over the Kraken, me likey that a lot, and Liz with the swords, of course, and Zimmer's music... oh, I'm so glad he's doing the score for the sequel as well.

I can't think of anything I don't like in it! If they do a good job of editing, keeping the characters as involving as they need to be, they've got a winner. But that's the trick, isn't it? Failure in that area has sunk many a sequel. Hopefully they know that, too.

Oh my goodness. Resisting the urge to fangirl ... trying to resist... failing.

SQUEEEEEE

I don't know how I am going to make it until July. I am going insane wanting to see this ... and avoiding the spoilers is killing me. I want to know ... but I want to just see it all in the movie ... really.

The "oh bugger" line is great, but it is Jack's "I like to wave at them as they pass by" at the end that really does it for me. Especially with the flash of images between the first half of the line and that part. What is Jack doing that close to Elizabeth anyway?

Very true. I would prefer a decent plot and a reason to go to the third one other than Jack, but Jack alone does make it worth the price of admission at least once ... maybe twice. A good plot ... well, not sure how many times I'll go before my husband tries to forbid me. *grin*
