Has anyone out there ever heard of Film Fantasy Magazine?

I can't help (nothing on Google), but this sounds intriguing.

I know there's nothing on Google.

I think it's imaginary.

Thought you would, but you know how it is, you have to see for yourself. :-) What's the context?

Well, I got a review of Dark of the Moon from someone on FF.net that included, "I'm not sure if anyone has informed you of this, but your first story Harry and the Pirate was selected as one of the top ten fanfictions for POTC in Film Fantasy magazine, which is how I found this site."

But there was no email address. I think it's a hoax. I should look it up on Snopes, probably. ;)

Hmmm. Strange. If a magazine printed such a list it makes sense that Harry and the Pirate would be on it, but ... strange. It could be real - perhaps the reviewer left a word out of the magazine's name? But people do play weird pranks like this. Hmmm again.

I looked some more and it's just pulling up things like 'Marquis - the Fetish Fantasy Magazine'.

LOL! They have a magazine for every interest!

it makes sense that Harry and the Pirate would be on it

Thank you for saying so, but I'm not at all sure about that. I think I'd write it a lot differently if I was doing it now. Still, it was fun at the time. :)

Yep. That's one thing about the internet -- you can get away with all kinds of stuff.

(The first comment didn't sound right. Sorry, I should never try to communicate at this time of night!)

I think I'd write it a lot differently if I was doing it now.

The passage of time just makes us more critical of our own work, I think, not happier with it... well it does for me.

Definitely got to sleep now!

Can you e-mail the person and ask for specifics on publication date, URL, maybe a scan?

I just arrived home from Borders (where I picked up the LOVELY new Rolling Stone magazine, BTW, with Pirate Jack on the cover - RRROWWRRR!), and while I was perusing the magazines, I did indeed find one called "Film Fantasy." I think it's one of those one-time vanity things a publisher might put out to supplement income and cash in on a hot trend - sort of like those magazines that concentrate on LOTR when a new movie is coming out, and the like.

ANYWAY ... "Harry and the Pirate" is indeed listed in the very back of the magazine with 9 other online fanfic stories about POTC. Honorat and TortugaBlack are also listed, as well as several other writers I've not heard of. (I just scanned the descriptions of the list, but I don't think they covered slash. I believe the magazine is probably aimed at teenagers.)

They have a paragraph description of each story and the praises of it, why it's in the magazine. It's called "Film Fantasy" and is published by Bauer Publishing as part of its "Life Story" series - I can't find anything online about it, but you can find it at Borders for $10.

Hope that helps!

Just found the issue today at a Ralphs Supermarket. There doesn't seem to be any kind of online info for this publication, which makes no sense whatsoever, but there you go.

It's usually focused on Harry Potter, but goes for other films as well. Yes, it's marketed towards teenagers and young people. The same group puts out several "teenybopper" fare mags. This issue has the same photo of Jack as what's on the bus stops and promos.

The stories listed are: "No Mercy" by Honorat, "Harry And The Pirate" by Geekmama (YAY!!!), "Plums Of The Carribean" by Ms Brooklyn, "Finding North" by Dee, "His Holiness, Captain Sparrow" by Beth/CG, "The Sacking Of Port Royal" by Tortuga Black, "Mutiny On The Dauntless" by Marnie, "Pirates Of The Carribean: The Bread Box Edition" by Evadne, "A Fine Woman" by Igenlode Wordsmith, and "Our Beautiful Life, Or I Want To Be A Pirate" by Ceridwen-amyed

And the list was sourced from G. "ErinRua" Atwater's site.

Go GEEKMAMA!!!!
